“Make the long night shorter, Forgetting not, Good stout old English Porter.” — R. H. Messenger

Luscious and silky smooth with a body to match, OP Porter is uncompromisingly rich yet surprisingly drinkable. A complex blend of dark malts and real milk sugar creates the bold flavors of dark roast coffee mingling with farm fresh cream. For the stout and porter lover in each of us, OP is a knockout.

Pairing suggestions: Cave-aged Bleu cheese, arancini with veal ragu, roast pork with gravy, bacon burger with fried egg and cheddar cheese, molten chocolate cake.

Tap. Moderate malt notes of toasted and dark chocolate, light herbs and earth for the hops and yeast, with a hint of vanilla and milk in the background. Head is small, frothy tan with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly bittersweet. Palate is medium, watery with lively carbonation and a slightly dry and chalky finish. A tasty sweet stout with pretty good drinking quality to it.

Dark handsome appearance, sweet as expected but not overbearing. Nice finish, and medium to heavy bodied. Drinkable which is the ultimate en=d game.

Funky Buddha mystery growler #1... Pours a darker cola-like pour, more dark brown in nature, and topped with a thin wispy soapy off-white head... Aroma is nutty in nature with a light roast with almost seems like a berry fruit bent. More fruity than I would expect from a porter... Flavors are a continuation of the same with nutty caramels upfront and a lighter fruity notes as well to go along with a moderate milk chocolate focus. thin to medium bodied leaning more towards the former.

Aroma:chocolate, coffee, malty
Taste: chocolate, malty/ sweet
This beer was out of balance. The sweetness really made it hard for me to get into this beer.

Draft at Funky Buddha. Brown-black with a rusty beige head. Rich lactic tones, very much in the Caribbean style of Stout. Sweet and milky, a pretty solid example of the style. Rich, sugary chocolate and some faint sour milk notes. Well done.

(Bottle thanks to jyoungsbcp) clear espresso brown with soapy tan bubbles. Nose of light smoke, chocolate, sweet cream. Taste of light smoke, dry chocolate malt, malt balls, slight spicy linger, nice, dry, and chocolaty.

Bottle, thanks to darkguardian! Pours dark brown, near black, with a big, creamy tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, a hint of smoke in the background. Sweetish taste, with hops and muscovado sugar up front, then milky chocolate and coffee. Light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Personally, I think this beer would be better with a bit more roasted malt character. That said, it is a really solid porter that I’d gladly drink more of given the chance.

Had yesterday at the brewpub. Review from notes. Received in a pint-like glass. 3.5 A: Black color. Came without a head, so no comment there. 4.0 S: Good balance between roastiness and sweetness. Strong coffee aroma with sweet dark caramel. Perhaps a touch of chocolate. Not too complex, but quite pleasant. 4.5 T: Like the nose - lots of coffee with ample amounts of sweet caramel giving this a velvety richness. Soft chocolate notes with perhaps a hint of smoke. 4.5 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Wonderfully creamy. Great here. 4.5 D: A well made beer that is all around solid. Definitely the best beer I had out of the five I tried. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 07-06-2011 17:10:51

Draught, black with a lacing and brown head. Nose is dry, bitter roast and some chocolate. Thick and murky taste, strong coffee and roast, heavy chocolate in the style of Upland’s Bad Elmer (as JG astutely remarks). Light hops are actually contributing something! Love this sultry swirl of coffee and chocolate, with only light and lilting sweetness, my favorite of the sampler and easily worth the pint.
