“Make the long night shorter, Forgetting not, Good stout old English Porter.” — R. H. Messenger

Luscious and silky smooth with a body to match, OP Porter is uncompromisingly rich yet surprisingly drinkable. A complex blend of dark malts and real milk sugar creates the bold flavors of dark roast coffee mingling with farm fresh cream. For the stout and porter lover in each of us, OP is a knockout.

Pairing suggestions: Cave-aged Bleu cheese, arancini with veal ragu, roast pork with gravy, bacon burger with fried egg and cheddar cheese, molten chocolate cake.

Bottle shared at the Craft. Opaque black - brown beer, little pale bubbly tan head. Light crispy palate. Sweet and sour beer! Sweet lacto contrasts nicely with the tang - which is bordering on sour. These two aspects in a mellow dark malt backdrop that has a trace of roast. Smooth semi dry finish. Nice easy going and interesting porter.

Medium-dark brown. The aroma is mostly diacetyl with nuttiness. Harshly astringent, toasty, nutty and full of butter. Gotta take it off tap when it turns.

Bottle shared at CBC - Clerkenwell, London during the 1st Birthday Celebration. Thanks to Ken for this beer. I believe this was a handbottle or growler. Pours rich brown with a foamy, tan head. Some tandy dark malts on the nose. Medium sweet flavor, lightly roasty, with some honey and plenty of tang. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Light to medium sweet finish with tangy, lightly roasted malts and a mead-like honey note. If the tang here is intentional, it isn’t great; however, I’m guessing it’s not on purpose - a pity, as this is my first beer from Funky Buddha.

A deep dark porter with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a smooth chocolate malt with lightly peated notes, coffee, nice. In mouth, a smooth sweet chocolate with some nice light smoked notes, nice and smooth, some vanilla, well done. On tap at brewpub, Feb. 13 2013.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2011 Hand bottle… Pours clear and nearly black (mahogany is revealed when held up to light) with a small, negligible, white head. The aromatics are of deeply roasted grains and a hint of milk chocolate. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and buzzing carbonation. The well-balanced flavor offers deeply roasted grains, charcoal and “straight” canned tobacco. Finishes grainy, chocolaty and a touch thin. Hand bottle courtesy of hankchinaski!

Mini growler thanks to my Uncle! Black. Tan head. Nose of coffee, roast chocolate malt and vanilla. Taste of same with lactose sweetness. Full body. Nice burnt roast flavor mixed with the lactose.

My Bottom Line:
Vanilla, cocoa and lactose move into roasted malts and their discreet bitterness for a very enjoyable Sweet Porter.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thin ring of foam circles the darkest brown.
-The cereals come out quite cleanly, almost redolent of oatmeal.
-The roastiness is met by leafy hops in the finish.
-The medium-bodied mouthfeel is enlightened by tiny, prickly bubbles.
-Molasses also peek through in the flavor profile.
-The flavor profile is sweet, soft, and perhaps shallow. Complexity is not at play, but those who can appreciate a sweet dark ale will like this quite a bit.

On tap at the brewpub.
