Draft at the Funky Buddha for their opening. Pours a really nice looking clear deep red. Nose is intensely fruity with alot of grape, cherry, raisin and blueberry and a smattering of caramel malt. Thick heavy caramel notes and a very full bodied fruitiness are the dominating flavors. Still relatively bitter on the back end, this is a great beer and will be even greater if left to sit longer. With this flavor profile it doesn’t need the IBU’s. It needs a more intensified malt backbone. This is one to watch.

Draft… Very dark ale with a mid-sized, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Great retention. The aromatics are chocolaty and mildly nutty with a rumor of white oak. Full-bodied and fatty with lazy carbonation. Less chocolate in the flavor than the base beer. Still rough around the edges with biting bitterness and sharp acidity in both the flavor and finish. More well rounded than the base beer, but not by much. There is a negligible oak component; real or imagined. This one should spend some more time with the oak. Solid brew either way.

On tap at the Buddha for the grand opening. Much like the straight Ordinary Madness, but with the kick of the Port Wine soaked oak. A very great sippable, cigar type of beer. One to chill and relax on. A good amount of complex fruity flavors, such as berries and dried fruit, such as raisins. Hopefully they’ll keep this on draft and I’ll get a second crack at it.
