3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft... Murky, toasted caramel pour generates a small, creamy, off-white head. Fruity and sweet the bouquet consists mainly of red apple and cotton candy.. Medium-bodied with stinging carbonation. The flavor is an overly sweet intermingling of toffee, cotton candy and minerals. Finishes sticky-sweet, fairly flat, and bland - followed by a buttery toffee aftertaste. Meh.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
Caramel and candied berries seem to be pricked by fennel in this slick Scotch Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the cloudy dark brown.
-Malt flavors could be better polished.
-There is no sign of alcohol, which is a plus.
-This is probably the antithesis of their Lemon Meringue Berliner Weisse. I like brewpubs who can branch out to far ends of different flavor spectrums.
-This is not one of those portly Scotch Ales.
-The fennel-like herbaceousness is perhaps peat smoked malt, but it does come off as more herb-like than usual.
On tap at the brewpub.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draft at the Buddha. Light brownish color, good carbonation with a nice fluffy head. Aroma has hints of roasted malts, caramel and the faintest hint of apples. Flavor is nice and creamy, and overly sweet. A really easy drinking scotch ale.
