Originally brewed for Funky Buddha’s 2nd Anniversary Celebration.
For our original fall release, Funky Buddha decided to create a beer that strayed from the pumpkin mold, instead patterning it after this eponymous Thanksgiving dish. And here’s a novel thought: we actually brew it in the Fall as well, around November, so you can drink it at the same time that you’re tucking into your Thanksgiving feast. At nearly 8%, it’s a big, rich, sticky beer full of sweet potato and marshmallow flavor.

355ml Bottle (Thanks Ompher) - Amber in colour. Pumpkin, vanilla, brown sugar and cinnamon feature strongly in both the aroma and the taste. Not really picking up much sweet potato which is perhaps a blessing as I am not such a big fan.

Bottled, thanks hackobock! Hazy pale orange, mid sized head. Cinnamon aroma. Sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Sugar, cinnamon, pumpkin pie and grass. Mid bitter finish. Well made and edgeless, if it is certainly not my favourite style.

Shared 12 ounce bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a small beige head. Aroma of pumpkin, vanilla, caramel, and spice. Taste is pumpkin, sweet potato, caramel, vanilla, and spice. Nice one, even though it is awfully sweet.

Pours hazy orange with medium head. Aroma: pumpkin, marhsmallow, spices (cloves, cinnamon), orange, some hoppy herbs. Taste: malty, with a lot of orange and spices (again cloves and a touch of cinnamon), nuts, palate is medium-hoppy with a touch of mint. This is a very interesting experimental beer. The taste and flavor is pretty intense but at the same time also drinkable. Of course, no way to have more than one, but still interesting stuff.

Thanks cards04. Murky light orange body white head. Sweet cinnamon apple pie aroma. Taste is sweet with a touch of dry funk. To me it’s more apple than sweet potato. Nice.

Thank you Mathieu87 & PriorL! 355 ml. bottle sampled @ “Mathieu’s house cooling party”. Hazy amber orange with little white bubbles. Nose is minty tooth paste (weird), sugar, candy, very sweet cinnamon & base sweetness that I could typify as sweet potato. Taste is weird, sweet mint upfront, followed by sugar, candy, massive almost artificial vanilla, cinnamon, toothpaste, sugar, very sweet finish, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, caramel & something that could definitely be sweet potato. Bit fizzy & light bodied. I love the sweet finish but the minty note makes this one really weird for me. Strange, partially good but not entirely successful for me.

Bottled on October 5, 2015 enjoyed January 18, 2016 in a Mad Elf tulip. Look - Color of sweet potato, weird right? A lot less than a finger of white head settles to a very thin ring. Blotchy lacing. Smell - Marshmallow. Spice. Taste - I’ve had this taste before, but can’t put my finger on it. It is almost like the grain covering on a Nutrigrain bar. Marshmallow. Feel - Enough carbonation so it isn’t flat but not too much to make it unsettling. Spice on tongue but no alcohol. Overall - I am very happy with this beer. I would have been just fine to give this out as gifts from my Florida trip. Marshmallow, cinnamon, and the Nutrigrain covering.
