COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Barley Wine is often a name for the beer with highest alcohol level of the brewery. This is also the case with Barley Wine from Fur Bryghus. We have chosen to illustrate this rare type of beer with the picture of one of the rarest finds on Fur. A 30cm long skull from a giant turtle which was found in 1957 by the first leader of Fur Museum, Magne Breiner. It has been named after him "Eoasphargis Breneri". 3468 bottles of this Barley Wine has been made. Strong hop sensation with a vinous warmth and flavor of dark malt, caramel and anise.

Had this at The European Beer Festival, Kobenhaven, 12-09-08. Full flavoured and with plenty of toffee and caramel. This beer poured mid amber, with quickly fading light beige had. I found this just a little too sticky and even a little sacchriney at times.

Bottle. High creamy and long lasting off-white head. Clear dark amber body. Weak and sweet malt aroma without hops bitterness, just a bit of caramel and some grassy notes plus alcohol. Flavor also too sweet caramel with just a hint of roasted malt. Alcohol can barely be spotted. Low carbonation. Short aftertaste. I guess the brewer has tried to hide the high alcohol percentage with sweetness. He has succeeded in this but unfortunately the beer is too anonymous.

2008 bottle @ EBF 2008. Soft fruitaroma. Red berries in the alcoholic flavor. Some grassy and earthy hops. There is not much room for other flavors, the raw alcohol dominates.

Bottle. [Papsoe tasting 31-08-2008, thanks buddy] Trades with Maria, you still have beer of your choice in retune large creamy off-white head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Clear flat looking amber color. Aromas of mild rye bread, grain, hint of fruit, vinous, mild hoppy notes. Medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor with a hint of bitterness. Sweet malty finish.
