Bottle from Total Wine, Sacramento. Pours dark brown with a rich beige head and a toasty aroma. There is a medium-bodied roasted malt flavor with a dry finish that sticks to the palate.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2003 liked this better the second time. full rye aroma. burnt raisin wine. tasted quite citric and hoppy - probably from buying it close to the source. a little syruppiness in the finish is the only real blemish

Bottled. Cloudy dark brown color. Rounded, rich caramel aroma with earth, dark chocolate, plums. Rich malt flavor, lots of caramel and some chocolate. Dry, earthy, a bit dirty. Great balance with a touch of raisins and dried figs. Good dunkel—not too sweet, though maybe a bit thin bodied.

Bottle. A brown beer with a medium off-white head. Roasted, caramel malt, light smoked aroma and a roasted, dusty, caramel malt taste. Medium body with a light dry finish.

jbrus (4992) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - JAN 21, 2006
Bottled. Hint of chocolat in the aroma, also a bit dusty and carbonation smell. Dark brown color, light brown head, very nice lace. Sweet, light roasted, light bitter, hint of chocolat, not very strong flavors except for the sugar, bit thin soft. Made me think of supermarket beer but not a bad one this time.

Swing-top by 04.08.12. Nose is lightly dusty, earthy, with caramel and light chocolate, malt. A very pretty, shady ruby-amber with snail-slow carbonation and rocky tiny-bubbled tan head. Nutty taste, low roast with (slight) milky chocolate, malty but actually relatively dry for a Dunkel. Light body, coating. Relaxing.

The bottle looks okay, the beer in the glass also. Tastes malty and dry, somehow not really balanced, not very drinkable. Not a good beer!
