Our specialty Weizen Hefe Dunkel appeals especially to friendly malty flavor. The careful blend of wheat and gently roasted, caramelized specialty malts give its dark color and wonderful flavors. This is the malty alternative to the classic Weizen Hefe Hell.

Pour is burnt orange with a creamy tan cap that sticks around for a bit. Nose is mostly banana bread and spice. Taste is sweet and slightly sour, with notes of ripe bananas, caramel, roasted grain and a bit of spice. It’s a bit watery overall, which seems to mute a lot of the flavour. Passable.

Bottle. Hazy to cloudy amber brown color, tan head. Aroma of citrus, subtle cocoa, toast. Taste is malty bubblegum, light fruit. Tasty.

500ml bottle as “Fürstenberg Weizen Hefe Dunkel” at abv 5.4% bought at Wai Shing Wine & Spirits in Landmark North, Sheung Shui.

Translucent deep brown colour with some dirt-like yeast sediments; One finger head with crumpety off-white foam which lasted for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing and quite fizzy carbonation; Very fragment aroma of banana, vanilla, sugar, light roasted malt, wheat, caramel, light chocolate, yeast, light cloves, and faint grass; Close to low sweet taste of strongly-roasted malt, with tart notes, fairly light banana, toffee, light caramel, yeast, light cloves, liquorices, lemon and light grass; Mid to light body, slightly slick and crisp palate; Mouth feel is tasty and very roasty, quite slick and tight. The usual banana and ester tastes gave way to strong roastiness (but not very nutty), toffee and light caramel. Clove and spices are also on the lighter side, with some good tart wheaty notes throughtout. Nice! Hoppiness is light grass in nose, light lemon in taste. Liquorices is light but works well with the roastiness for a lightly astringent and tart finish; Pretty dry after taste, very easy and roasty to mouth.

Comments: This one has some really good roastiness in aroma and taste, plus nice tart wheaty notes, good light toffee characters and clever hoppiness which more than made up for its lighter banana and clove elements. Tasty and refreshing, an unexpected Dunkelweiss gem!

Pours a clear dark copper with a head that you could eat with a spoon. You can see the intense carbonation underneath. Taste is sweetish with a lot of banana esters. Like drinking a banana bread. Mouthfeel is creamy, with a medium levelof carbonation. A good hefe dunkel!

Hazy amber with a 2 inch dirty white head than dissipates to 3mm in no time. Aroma is banana, yeast and must. Strong, ripe, brown banana flavor. A lot of sugar, seems sweet and not very strong. Goes by boringly.
