COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
My goal in building the recipe for Fallen Apple was to create a seasonal specialty that was in and of itself a celebration. I start with fresh-pressed cider from early harvest apples we get from Kickapoo Orchards in Gays Mills. Fermentation leaves the cider tart and champagne-like. I then brew a cream ale designed to put some sweetness and body back into the beer, which rounds out the sour apple notes. This combination of ethereal apple flavor grounded in an “everyman’s” beer makes for a festive and potent brew.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours amber straw color with minimal head and heavy carbonation. Nose is earthy apple, pale malt. Tastes dry, with notes of earthy apple, pale malt, and a very tart finish.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2012 Each sip is fizz, then apple, then a nice toasty warmth. Base seems pretty standard cream ale. Decent seasonal, essentially apple cider with a bready touch.

Pours a pale, peach-gold with a tall, creamy eggshell head that has great retention and leaves very nice lacing. Aroma is apple juice, cereal grain, toasty malt, buttery toffee, toasted nuts, light vegetal notes and some woody notes. Flavor is tart apple, toasty grain, bready yeast, overripe apple, light mineral notes and young cider sourness (malic acid?), a touch of citrus hops and hay. Palate is light bodied, fairly dry throughout and has a huge, blanketing, slightly sharp carbonation, which compliments the apple side of things well. I liked this stuff well enough, but the flavors and aromas don’t blend as well as they could have, the tartness with the slightly buttery notes really don’t work that well for me. It does look really nice and the palate is very good with the apple components it just doesn’t fit well with the buttery beer notes.

Pours a lovely clear, orange-copper. Aroma is of apples. Tastes like a light pilsener into which some apple juice has been mixed. Not altogether unpleasant, but really not all that memorable, either.

Bottle pours gold with a white head. Aroma is sweet and tart with notes of apple cider, earth, and the slightest hint of vanilla. Flavor shows the same with a light toffee/bread malt underneath. Overall body is light and soft with a slightly tart finish.

More cider than beer, this has a light amber color with a small head. The aroma is apples, tart and tasty like from the orchard. the flavor is more apples, again tart and tasty. Smooth and easy. A nice beer for the fall.

Light color, no head. Crisp and clean tasting. Goes down smooth. Very sweet, almost like candy, somewhere between beer and hard cider. I liked it overall.

Clear amber, white cover. Aroma is a clash of sour apple and sweet corn. The taste is more pleasant, light tart apple most of the way through, then a finish of corn and sweet malt. These flavors do best when they don’t try to meld.

Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head.

The aroma is very apple-y, sort of sweet smelling, with some tartness and a fair dose of yeastiness.

The flavor is banana bread right up front, this turns to more focus on tart apples and light toasted malt. The beer is fairly sweet, perhaps a little too sweet. I like the apple flavor here no doubt.
