3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
An amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, an interesting green peppercorn, with fruity esters, nice and smooth. In mouth, nice smooth saison-like offering, with nice pepper notes, malty and smooth, a bit of orange pulp. On tap at the Istmus Beer and Cheese, Jan 21 2012.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Maybe I got a bad bottle, but I’m not tasting the pepper that everyone says is so overpowering. This tastes like a run-of-the-mill pilsner as much as anything. Nothing special, really.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours an amber color with 1/4 in frothy white head. Aroma consists of pine and black pepper. Medium to light bodied. Taste is overwhelmingly black pepper with a bit of toffee and caramel trying to seep through. Black pepper overshadows everything else however and comes off as too much. At the back end, the pepper becomes even more pronounced and lingers. I actually find it difficult to finish an entire bottle of this.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
I agree with others, the pepper taste overwhelms this brew. Medium body, dry finish, not as complex as one might except from this style of beer. Overall, decent, not one of my favorite styles.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Sugar Mom’s in Philly Olde City. Little hipster bar hidden in a dark alley. Clear amber with a lasting, off-white head. Muted, herbal nose. Taste is herbal, clean, basil, oregano, mild but welcome cracked black peppercorn. Citrus spice to balance. Not bad at all.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Very spicy beer, with an overwhelming taste of pepper. Clear red amber color, with short head. Palate was smooth, but couldn’t get over pepper, too overpowering.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Appearance: Somewhat dark amber with thick off-white head and very nice lacing.
Aroma: Cracked black pepper, caramel, cherry, and light citrus.
Taste: The black pepper overwhelms the caramel malt base. Ends with strong pine, some citrus and the pepper still carries through.
Palate: Moderate carbonation, medium body, dry finish.
Overall: Very unique, but the black pepper is simply too much. Points for innovation.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This was a little confusing to get served as an APA without any more clarification. An amber-orange color with a beige head. The aroma is some caramel, but dominated by a woodiness, it almost seemed like cedar to me, but now I know it is the black pepper. The taste is much the same, a pretty standard malt base covered up entirely by black pepper. Not bad, but not my thing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to a generous trader. Pours clear amber. White head. Nose/taste of cracked black pepper, pineapple, hops and sweet malt. The cracked black pepper dominates both nose and palate but still melds nicely into the brew. Spicy cracked pepper finish. Medium body.
