3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jmcgavin12 (165) - Madison, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Pours a dark brown with a decent bit of tan head that doesn’t stick around for too long. Aroma is heavy on the roasted malt. What sets it apart from others of the style is the hint smokiness in the aroma. The taste follows quite well. The sweet cream of the taste is complimented well by the subtle overtones of smokiness that aren’t overpowering but make for something different. The finish is a bit astringent due to a bit of salt and the roastiness
Overall a pretty good stout. Would definitely enjoy again soon

Smoky roasted aromas, creamy mouthfeel with a slight malt sweetness in the flavor. A solid Porter would drink again. Most defiantly the smokiest dry stout I ever drank. If you don’t like smoked beers stay away

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Smells of earth and smokey wood. Tastes of the same with light sweetness. Decent dark beer.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2012 Brown with tan head. Smoke, chocolate, and cappucino, with salt notes. Creamy but not heavy. Definitely one to keep an eye out for. I know of no better dark beer in Wisconsin.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nsanders (243) - St Paul, Minnesota, USA - JUL 6, 2012
Near black with a thick mocha colored head. Smells smokey, like peat, tabacco, dry, and roasted malts. Mild sweetness that is dry and quickly fades. Medium body with a creaminess. Decent, would go great with a cigar or a steak.

On tap at Old Fashioned, pours black with a thin tan head, the aroma has a good amount of milk chocolate and some caramel, the flavor has a bitterness of chocolate on the front end with a hop kick in the finish, overall pretty balanced and nice.

Pours rich and velvetty with a tall dense mocha head.
Aroama is rich and malty with nuiances of earthy peat at the end.
A good tasting stout with a big dose of roasted malts and smokey peat.
Smooth and semi dry finish. Me likes.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 tmoreau (1625) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - MAY 8, 2012
On tap at the Old Fashioned in Madison, WI., and dispensed to a shaker a little on the cold side, with an opaque, black/brown color, cream & bubbles, brownish tan head foam, and impressive, curtainy lacing. The aroma was roasty, some woodiness and char, maybe a little creamy flake, and earthy, barnyard scent. The flavor was similar, and contributed a lingering, medium hop bitterness, and an additional leathery character. The body was medium+, and the finale was bitter and dry. Interesting recipe, but for me, it was a little difficult to finish.
