3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask (gravity) - The Fat Cat, Norwich. Loose, medium sized white head atop a clear golden yellow body. Peach, tangerine and a decent lingering lemony hop bitterness with a splash of lime. Lovely sweet and juicy citrus & floral hop aromas. Good peppery notes running throughout. Light to medium body, good carbonation, quite firm on the palate. Finishes with a lingering bitterness and a light dryness.

[cask at Thomson’s, Edinburgh] Fyne Ales are one of Scotland’s most under-rated breweries, and Avalanche is their outstanding beer. When kept and served well on cask it’s the quintessential session beer – golden and clear with a decent head retention. Fantastic aromas of soft, grassy hops with a backbone of fruit. On the palate the flavours are subtly bitter hops with a wonderful citrus flavour, leading to a moreish bitter aftertaste from the malt. One of the very best Scottish beers, and any pub I walk into with this on, I know what I’m having before I reach the bar
