Cask; Regular. Also available filtered in bottle.
This is a strong traditional ale with intense malt flavours and a citrus hop aroma. A very smooth beer with a well-rounded, distinctly "moreish" finish.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2008 Dec, 2004 Village Inn, Arrochar, Scotland. Wow! Perfumed, rich and spicy with apricot, mistletoe, lychess and tarragon. Feels much fuller than 4.8% - pulling toward a barley wine. Clean and fruuity. Absolutely marvelous. An outstanding beer moment in an outstanding pub. [4.4]
Feb, 2008 500ml filtered bottle from Inverary tourist shop/ A malty brown ale with chocolate and roast notes. It’s a nice ale with some peaty qualities, and there’s some assertive flavour, but lacks genuine character and interest. [2.7]

Malty, slightly sweet, with some dry hop bitterness in the finish. Nice enough session beer, though a comedown from their much superior Jarl.

Aroma: Not easy to detect. Malty with a musty citrus aroma.

Appearance: Clear, amber body. Thin white head that slowly dissipates. Excellent lacing.

Taste: Emphasis is on the lightly roasted malt. The finish has a lemony, slightly sour flavour. Simple, but moreish.

Palate: Light to medium body. Thin mouthfeel. Lively carbonation.

Overall: Well balanced and drinkable, however, it’s a tad watery. It’s a good bitter, but Jarl, Hurricane Jack and Avalanche from Fyne Ales are better.

50cl bottle, BBE 08/2012. Poured dark golden with a frothy, lacing, great looking head. Aroma is citrus, hops and malt. Flavor is more toasted, nicely fruity and hoppy, decent bitterness. Nice body for this ABV. Enjoyable.

It pours a clear, light amber, with a fluffy beige head that is gone within a minute. It does leave some nice lacing though, but you can see right through this beer. Smell is really light citrusy hop, not grapefruit or anything acidic, more sweet citrus, but it’s pretty subtle (in terms of the sweetness). Definitely get a caramelized aroma from the malt, kinda makes it seem like a peach or apple kind of note. It smells pretty clean and pleasant, but not very complex. Taste, definitely get a peach taste, like under-ripe peach; sweet, but not super juicy, and just barely tart. Toasty malt flavour, offsetting the sweetness nicely, and it blends well with the hop bitterness that is pronounced enough in the finish. The mouth feel is really nice for a light bodied beer, it’s real thin and has enough carbonation to keep it interesting, and I think it suits that nice hop bitter finish too. Stupidly easy to drink.
