This is a strong traditional ale with intense malt flavours and a citrus hop aroma. A very smooth beer with a well-rounded, distinctly "moreish" finish.

14th December 2010. At the Euston Tap with Harrisoni. Clear amber beer. Little white head. Smooth dry palate. Sublte toffee in the malt. Fairly bitter hop without much accompanying hop fruit. Finishes dry and bitter. Dry and bitter without much else going on - not my cup of char!

Cask at The Roebuck, Leek (Titanic) A clear pale amber colour with a foamy off white head. Aroma is fruity of red berries, strawberry jam, biscuit, some honey, very subtle pine and slight herbal hops. Taste of strawberry jam, red berries, a little cranberry, some honey, caramel and slight herbal hops. Light bodied and a slightly oily texture. A sweetish, fruity, strawberry finish. This is quite sweet for a ESB, very fruity with only a subtle bitterness. Good but lacks balance.

Bottle. Toasted, tea-like malts, floral-citrusy hops and fruity notes of strawberries and blueberries. Very nice aroma, slightly minty. Malty, subtly tart, dry flavour with a not too pleasant, astringent bitterness. The flavour is nowhere near as rich as the aroma.
