3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Jacob23_5 (64) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JAN 8, 2012
Bottle at home. Roasted red colour with fine lacing. Nose has floral and honeyed notes with a touch of apricot jam. Subtle but prominent carbonation on the mouth-feel. Apricot and mango with hazelnuts on the flavours. Not the most exciting beer in the world, possibly, but absolutely justified.

Bottle, Baxters outlet, Selkirk. A big, robust brew, good sweet malt and plenty of hops on the palate, thick off-white head, long lingering finish. Lovely!

Bottle at Appellation Wines we wish you a hoppy Christmas tasting. Pours a golden colour with a thick beige head. A nutty aroma with caramel and Weetabix malt also. Similar flavours of chestnuts, roasty malt and a little coffee to finish. Moderate carbonation and a little CO2 prickle. Fairly bitter and very drinkable. Nice.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (688) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - DEC 2, 2011
Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in December 2011. Cask, handpump dispense. Lovely colour of clear garnet red with a creamy off white head. Dry vinous fruit in the short dusty aroma. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts deliver a dry woody cask note with sweet candied fruit, crystal malt really evident. in this. Really dry presence of hop resins flood the aftertaste with a powerful astringency. Finish is really dry with oak cask and tart redcurrant fruit notes. Too astringent for my tastes though but appears to be a trademark of the Fyne portfolio. Worth seeking out over the festive period.

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2011 More grapefruity on the nose this time. The palate is lovely and rich in the beginning and middle and just the perfect refreshing bitterness. What was I thinking!

50cl bottle. Pours amber with a good head. The nose has gentle pine aromas. The taste is grapefruit against a background of sweet maltiness. The palate is medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a sharp refreshing finish. Overall this is an enjoyable balanced beer.

[500ml bottle, Appellation Wines, Edinburgh] The antidote to Christmas? It would explain the lack of major spicing in this one – it pours a copper colour with a decent white head. Aromas of hops and a slight whiff of smoke. Fruity hops on the palate, good balance of malt, slightly smoky dry aftertaste. Not a Christmas beer, more a year-round drinker. Another great session beer from Fyne Ales [17122010]
