Cask @ The State Bar. Almost black colour, big head. Mild smooth coffee malt aroma. Fruity coffee chocolate malt flavour. Smooth but it is nothing special. I thought this one would be better than this.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 BenH (1335) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 3, 2012
Tap at southern bar. Black with little tan head. Nice thick aroma, molasses, toffee and dark fruits, plum and cherry. Taste is heavily roasty, coffee, chocolate, bit of licorice/molasses and dark fruits, toffee, chocolate, quite complex. Served completely flat and a slightly sticky sweet finish with a lingering chocolate taste. I think I’d prefer a bit of carbonation, not sure where this responsibly lies, pub/brewery? All in all a very tasty beer

Aroma: Liquorice, treacle, toffee and coffee.
Appearance: Jet black body with a large tan head that holds right to the end. Good lacing.
Taste: Similar to the aroma, full of flavour. Slight burnt taste and quite boozy. Great balance of flavours.
Palate: Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft carbonation.
Overall: Very flavoursome and has the best holding head of any beer I’ve ever tried.

Cask @ Stockbridge Tap, Edinburgh 140912
Black, thin ruby edges, tight tan head, good lacing
Aroma - deep dark roast, coffee, deep dark malts, complex
Taste as aroma, nice fruity deep malts, plain chocolate, deep soft roast, bit of booze noticeable, background of bitterish fruity hops, great flavour
Palate - soft carb, medium body, fairly sweet with nice balanced soft bitter roast, finish as main flavour, little dry, nice rich deep chocolate malt tail.
Overall - Really nice stout (It isn’t a porter to me). I just like Sublime Stout a tiny bit more.

On cask at The Red Squirrel. A black beer with a fair tan head. Aroma of whisky liqueur, roasty malt, chocolate and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and a velvety, smooth mouth-feel. Lovely lingering roasty malt, chocolate and oak with well balanced alcohol. Great name, great beer!
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheCametron (1296) - CZECH REPUBLIC - SEP 6, 2012
Cask at Holyrood 9a for launch night. Black with a generous tan head. Aroma is of toffee and booze. Flavour is milk chocolate, plummy fruit sweetness and more booze. Very smooth integration of the roasty malt edges. A luscious thickness on the palate. Had this side-by-side with a bottle of the winning homebrew entry. I think the original was better. Well played Jake and Chris. A fine achievement.

[cask at launch, Holyrood 9A, Edinburgh] Very black pour, with hints of brown somewhere in the beer. Off-white head. Aroma of dandelion and burdock, chocolate and woody alcohol. The flavour begins with that slightly oaky flavour, then becomes very roasty as the chocolate and cocoa come out. Alcohol and damson/plum on the finish. I didn’t get much liquorice, but it’s got a lot going for it, no question. Really nice [05092012]
