4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
A lively dark brown beer with thick pillowy cream head and a tantalising aroma of coffee grounds, forest floors, aniseed and burnt caramel. The latter comes to the fore in the body of the beer, which is thick and creamy. A brief bitter spike follows and the beer mellows into coffee and chocolate leaving a lasting chocolate and malty note. Just how I like my porters. The bottle conditioning keeps it in fine fettle. Iíd happily sup this beer in bottle form again and hope I am fortunate enough to come across a cask version.

The taste is liquorice, milk chocolate, caramel, burnt sugar, smokey, rich-roast coffee, charcoal and vanilla with a dry, burnt-bitter finish. A decent, drinkable porter.
