Bottle from a Kentish friend. It pours dark ruby with low carbonation and a large foamy beige head. The nose is cocoa, liquorice, coffee, farmyard and cheese. The taste is liquorice, milk chocolate, caramel, burnt sugar, smokey, rich-roast coffee, charcoal and vanilla with a dry, burnt-bitter finish. A decent, drinkable porter.

Cask at Cask Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico, London last month. A dark ruby coloured pour with a medium head. Aroma of dark fruit. Tastes roasty, malty, hint of coffee, caramel. My first Gadds beer, pretty decent stuff.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2011 Draught @Brasserie 4:20 (Rome) - Dark red/brown appearance. Taste is fruited with a bit of caramel. Flavor is quite sweet with a light bitterness in the end. Low body, low carbonation, flat, quite watery. So so...

Cask at the Evening Star, Brighton. Pours a deep red with a light, beige head. Has some ripe fruits on the nose with a bit of caramel. Flavor is lightly sweet with dark and dank ripe fruits, some mild, toasty malts, and herbal bitters. Medium in body with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with very herbal, tea-bag hops, and some mild caramel and fruits, but not too sweet. Pretty alright.

Apparently I had to rate a beer from this county in England. Brown-red, tan cover. Aroma is fruity, berry, caramel. Taste is sweet, lots of berries, caramel, ugly finish.

Black, thin ring of beige foam. Smells like cherry and oak, mixed a bit of coffee. Flavor is pretty much the same, but less so. I get some coffee, cherry and oak (again), but it’s a bit on the bland side. Thanks to grownfool for bringing this one!

beautiful ruby colour and has a slightly beige head which disappeared rather quickly. I had a slight stuffy nose and couldn’t detect much at all when I tried to smell the beer, perhaps a touch roasty, but little beyond that. Taste wise though this was quite simply lovely, velvety coffee laced with milk chocolate – like a Galaxy bar from when I was a kid. The bitterness of this beer is held in balance with sweet smoothness of the finish. A really lovely beer.

cask @ Eight Bells Dover. Nearly black colour. Dry and bitter with some chocolate flavours. Quite light-bodied.

Cask handpull, Chambers, Folkestone. Mahogany with ruby glints and a thin slick of head. Light soapy aroma with hazelnut. Warms with choc, some lovely mashed up biscuit and choc-coated Rich Tea malts, orange and raisin hints, not much roast, light rum barrel. Not the legendary Dog Bolter of Dog and Trumpet days, maybe, but a tasty, straighforward winter warmer.

Cask at Pig’s Ear. Dry mouth feel, quite smoky, bacon (?!) A bit one dimensional.
