Commercial Description:
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel's flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

12 oz. bottle: Sparkling clear pour with lots of spritzy carbonation and a receding ivory head. Light aroma is peach esthers and some straw. Body follows suit, with a broaded spectrum of esthery notes - peach and baked apple. Herbal hops and subtle caramel malts add some depth. This is a great example of a very delicate style.

Soft, bready aroma. Decent amount of flavor but nothing I could put my finger on. Incredibly light. Disappointing for a kolsch. Maybe I’m not sophisticated enough to get the bouquet of flavors or maybe they just aren’t there.

Yellow with a lasting white head. Aroma of straw and grain with a spicy touch and some sulphur. Dry straw and sulphur flavour with a little fruity sweetness and a decent bitter finish

Bottle @ Flensburg. Pours clear pale yellow with a frothy egg white foam. Nose is sweet of svovl, grain and egg-shit or egg fart. Taste is sweet grain and corn. Medium to watery body. Dammn the aroma was plain filth.

Refrigerated bottle served in a glass. Pours a pale golden with small white head. Taste is light floral ale spice to begin with then finishes dry and crisp like a pilsner. Kind of boring.

Dry, cidery aroma with abundant biscuit and a hint of champagne. Pours a crystal clear gold with a compact white head, spots of lace. Medium body, crisp on the palate, the flavor imparts a fullness to the body beyond its rather thin viscosity. Abundant doughy flavor, noble hops impart a bit of bitterness and a bit more of a vegetal character, slightly cidery. Refreshing, drinkable.

Overall Impression: A light, crisp, refreshing beer. Not overly exciting, nose is pretty dull, flavor is decent. Dry and fruity. Not bad, but not very memorable.

Bottle. Pours a very clear straw colour with a light white head. Aroma is mostly hoppy and not pronounced. It is easy to drink and has a hops and grain taste. It is bitter with an abrupt finish. Overall I quite like this beer but it is nothing particularly special.
