COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Yellow body, modest carbonation, decent head, just about average appearance. Aroma of cereal grains, water, slight hint of alcohol. Taste is smooth and a little sour, aftertaste of fermented grains. Very easy to drink like a lot of German beers but hard to pick out of a crowd. PS First Kölsch!!

On tap at Ristoranti Sansone in Koln. Typical kolsch glass, lively carbonation, lght gold color. Smells of breads. Taste is yeast, bitter, cereals. Not heavy at all.

FROTHINGSLOSH (3205) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 30, 2010
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark yellow color with a huge soapy yellow-white head that lingered and produced great lacing. The aroma was tart, grapey and sweetish. The flavor was sweet, tart and lightly malty with a strong artificial grape presence and an undertone reminiscent of boiled eggs. The finish was long, tangy and grapey. Medium body. Eh.

Nice Kolsch. Looks beautiful, pale gold, nice head, effervescent. Grassy, grainy notes. Easy to drink. Just what a kolsch should be. Might be a little lacking in the hop bitterness, but overall it’s good.

After the beer was served in the glass there was found a lasting quantity wall adhesive white foam collar which was fine and even of structure. The beer also contained much carbonic acid in the glass. The beer has a clear golden color and a sweet taste. The after tast of the beer is hoppy bitter with a light malty touch. This beer smells malty.

5L mini keg. Clear straw coloured with a light head. Aroma of light malt, grain with notes of grassy hops. Light bodied , smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Sweet malt flavour, light caramel notes. Not too bitter. This was my first kolsch and I really liked it.

Bottle from Oddbins. Gold pour with a white head. Grapefruit, tangerines and a splash of herbs in the nose. Herbs, hops, pineapple and grapefruit flavours. Fruity, bitter finish.
