COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2011 Lucent straw, thin white head, light body, medium co2.

aroma: minerality, lemony and slightly earthy hops.

taste:
T1= co2, amber malt, and noble hops.
T2= peppery lemony noble hops, minerality.
T3= slick minerality and hop bitterness.

malt backbone is subtle and the hops are more assertive, but remain balanced.
a nice appertiff.

On tap at Churchkey, 6/5/2010. Pours a transparent whitish golden color with some white head. Aroma has lots of cereal, some citrusy hops, and a touch of yeast. Flavor has cereal, lemony hops, and a bit of malt, pretty clean and nice overall. Finish is bitter and hoppy, with some cereal.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear straw yellow with moderate-sized white head. Grassy hop aroma. Taste is a little biscuity with a slight fruity sweetness and some grassy hops in finish. Fairly fizzy. Ok but I wouldn’t rush to have again.

Clear straw yellow pour. Grassy hop aroma. Some malt. Lemon zest and cereal with a bitter hop finish. Not bad.

Poured from the bottle a clear yellow. From the looks of it, nothing special. No distinct aromas I can pick up, but I do have a weak sense of smell. Mouthfeel is crisp and bubbly. A few traces of hops and it finishes clean. Slightly dry. I love Kolsch’s and I do like this one but I can’t say it really represents the style of beer very well.

Well, it’s not going to blow your mind or anything, but what it will do, is quench your thirst, keep you interested, sub due your yearning for a good beer, and compliment a greasy bag of potato chips while you watch a movie from the comfort of your own bed. Which is all one can really ask. That and a good woman.....this beer won’t do that.....but just imagine if it could! It pours a golden yellow with short lived head. The aroma is grassy, notes of popcorn butter, and weak hops. The flavour is grassy, diacetyl butter, hop pellets in the finish, sour bitterness, but it kind of works.

Meh, not big on this at all. Very boring and plain, little flavor. Smells like malt and grass, tastes the same. I don’t find it "faintly fruity" and the "hop finish" isn’t very pronounced. Carbonated so thats what the "crisp" is, IMO

Bottle 50cl. A clear golden beer. Smell is pilsen like. Aroma is typically on lager with spicy and nut finish. Quite bitter at the finish with metallic notes, malty character is nice. Very common.
