Kon me helaas niet bekoren

Draft Gaffel Am Dom. Soft mineral nose with a touch of peppery spicy hop. no significant esters. Low hop bitterness, but some hop flavor, lasting all the way into the finish in a drying manner. Quenching and leaves you wanting more.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
330 ml clear bottle bought at foodGARDEN in D2 Place, Lai Chi Kok.
Translucent light golden honey colour; Very thin head and soapy white foam which fades in 15 seconds; Very small lacing and notable small carbonation; Pungent sweet smell of malt, with initial skunky hops (gone in 2 minutes), honey, light dark fruit, light caramel and thin grass; Mid to light sweet taste of lager malt, with warm bread, light dark fruits, thin molasses, light earth, light spice, liquorices, thin lemon and herbal hops; Light body, watery and pretty crisp palate; Mouth feel is quite refreshing and light koelsch. Full lager malt’s kinda hidden in the thin body, dark fruit taste is thin. Sweetness is moderate, complemented by good dose of hoppiness - earthy and spicy, bitterness is low-fi but liquorices is good enough to balance sweetness for a pretty long slightly astringent finish; Quite dry after taste; fairly easy and crisp to mouth.
Comments: This Koelsch is competent enough: crisp and refreshing, good maltyness, almost no skunk despite clear bottle, and pushed all the right buttons for the earthy herbal hoppiness. If only it has more assertive character in fruitiness and spiciness, it’ll be something. Easy going and undemanding, it’s right on the passing mark for now.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a pale yellow with a thin white head that leaves little lacing. Smell is sweet, wheat, wet grass. Taste is the same as the aroma. Not a lot of flavor from this one. Thin fizzy mouth feel. Overall not a terrible beer after a long day at work and you just want to throw a few back. Not worth the price though. Being imported and not widely available in my area this one runs $11 for a sixer. Much better options for less money. Not looking at it from a financial perspective and purely on the quality of the beer, this is a middle of the road session beer at best.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
200 ml draft @ Gaffel Haus. This is the one Kölsch I saw advertised everywhere in Cologne, oddly pretty much every Asian restaurant seemed to carry its advertisement on its exterior. I saw several bars display its logo on the outside as well. Overall this was the Kölsch I liked the least out of the ones I tried. Clear golden, head seems a touch creamier compared to the others, I might be trying a bit too much to find differences in appearance between different Kölsch’s. Grainy nose, metallic, light funk & some sugary sweetness. Taste is lightly but distinctly metallic, bitter herbs mixed with white sugar, sweeter yeast. Lightly grainy mouthfeel. This one felt far too processed for my liking. This one actually felt a bit like a Pilsner unlike the other ones, well maybe Dom did a little bit as well. Still pretty drinkable & not particularly offensive or anything.
