The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Bottle at green sheep. Clear strow yellow colour, small white head disappears fast. Nose is dry corn, very similar to corona. Taste as well just a little bit more bitter. Dry mouthfeel. Expected different...

The beer is a clear pale yellow when you pour it. The foam is white and comes up pretty fast. The foam have large bubbles and disappear leisurely. The foam leaves little trace in the glass. The aroma is a little malt itself. You will find some herbs, citrus and some honey sweetness. But the public feels a little light in the scents. The flavor is a little bit fruity, and little watering. Some flavor of malt, honey, herbs and some citrus. Light body. Medium-high carbonation who indulge in a while. Slightly dry, watering and earthy.

11.2 oz. bottle from Jungle Jim’s (Fairfield); shared with Boo. Aroma: Pale, semi-sweet bready malts with a peppery, slightly grassy hop character in near balance. Appearance: Yellow pour with soft carbonation holding up a sticky white head that settles into a patchy ring. Flavor: Slightly lemony bread up front with a gently peppery/grassy hop presence at the finish, which is slightly bitter. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Well done and clean; best enjoyed with a German-centric meal.

0.33 l bottle @ Green Sheep Beers and Bar. Golden color, white head. Malts and yeast in flavor. Bittersweet flavor, with malty and hoppy hints. Short finish, light to medium body, easily drinkable. Not too complex, but fine.

Aroma is floral, lemon, bread, fruit. Delightful. Flavor is similar with a bitter streak. Very very thin.
