COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

on tap at GBBF 2010 - clear golden body and a niche white head - fresh grain and a light hoppy aroma - fresh sweetness and light fruity flavour - good co2 - a very fresh pilsener look alike beer :-)

Bottle. Large, white, meringue-ish head. Good lacing. Clear, golden body and pearly carbonation. Abundant floral and spicy hop aroma with light pils malt notes. Some hops in the flavor. Malt comes through as grainy, almost husky. Light pear and a touch of soap flavor. Lightish body is highly carbonated. Quite punchingly bitter with low malt sweetness. Lingering bitter hop character in the finish. Decent beer, but I wish the malt flavor was a little more refined and not as husky/harsh.

To be honest (and most people seem to agree with me) this just doesn’t smell that good..a 4 is generous. Funky malt. Flavorwise this is simple, a smooth malt, no funk a light session-style finish Pretty good despite the aroma.

On tap at Bar Bar Black Sheep in Chicago. Poured clear light amber with no head or lacing. Flavor was somewhat dry and musty, more like a bohemian pilsner than a kolsch. Little sweetness or depth of flavor, but palatable and the dry hoppiness was somewhat appreciated.

Can. Pours a translucent gold with a small, white head. Aroma is grainy, slightly grassy. Taste is strongly grainy, tones of cardboard and a herbal finish. Flowery aftertaste. Light palate.

Pale yellow colour, white head. Quite grassy aroma, sweet malts, slight caramel, white bread. Aroma rather sweet and bit hoppy. Finish quite hoppy for a Koelsch. Quite nice and refreshing.

My keg was a little bit too aged when I enjoyed this with friends yet it was a good evening. Gaffel Kölsch is pale yellow. it is fruity, floral and a bit sweet.
