COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Aroma: herbs and DMS. Appearance: nice golden color, poor head. Taste: low bitterness, herbal and quite spicy, dry and slightly watery. Palate: medium body and high carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: quite good kolsch. In my view there is no fruitness and zestiness, but still ok.

On tap at Bei d´r Tant , Koln, Germany, Thursday 27th March 2014 Another beer that is as clear as you like, white fluffy head, good looker. A little sweet, a little steely, but I like the maltiness, a little bit of yeast then a late burst of german hops comes to the party. A decent Kolsch. A6 A5 T7 P3 Ov13 3.4

Getreidiger Geruch.

Tap at The Rover, Gothenburg. Poured clear light amber with little life. The aroma is toffee malt yeast. The flavour is medium to light bitter with a hop bitter yeast light citrus palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. One for a hot day!

Doft: svag lim. Smak: söt och limmet hänger med in i munnen, torr eftersmak. En trevlig kölsch. Passar till musslor och pommes.

Smell of malt, straw. Pale golden colour, white head. Aroma of hay, malt, some sugar. Mildly bitter, flat but plentiful carbon.

500ml bottle courtesy of Ashton McCobb - Cheers Ash! Pours clear pale gold, thick white head, high carbonation keep sit in situ. Watery, corn and straw aromas, digestive biscuits and lemon. Taste is all of this, and no more. Thin and a little astringent on the end. OK.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 Draught @ Gaffel am Dom, 03/02/2014. As most Kölsch, much more enjoyable fresh on tap, leaving in some taste. Clear, cristalline golden pour with lean pale malts, no residual graininess and a pleasant, almost natural mineral & zest hop flavour to smoothly round things of. As opposed to their bottled version, fine enough to session when in Köln and within the Dom’s and Kölsch’ oppresive cast shadow.// 06/2014 Tap at Café Alantik FR: this beer really shines when surrounded by sweet-naturtrübe SW beers and macro Pilsners. Loved a few rounds of this to break the Alpirsbacher and Landbier spell.
