Bottle. Golden with medumcarbonation. Sweet with a gentle maltiness and a dry finnish. An excellent example of this lovely style.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 ClubGonzo (1984) - Bergen, NORWAY - DEC 10, 2011
Bottle from Galeria Kaufhof, Alexanderplatz, Berlin. Pours a pale golden body with an insignificant white head. Grains, pale malts and clearly present metallic hints. I’m suspicious already. This beer does, however, improve when tasted: Dry hops up front, then a rather lovely subtle fruitiness swings around before pale malts and classic German hops finish in a bitter fashion. Medium body, smooth and drinkable. Truly a crossbreed between lager and ale, this is an enjoyable beer although not spectacular in any way.
2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Kurki (15) - FINLAND - DEC 9, 2011
Widely available all around Koln, very consistant taste on-tap vs. from the bottle.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ryan (3068) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - DEC 7, 2011
Fruity and lightly sweet honey nose with a touch of cereal graininess. Fairly dry taste, lightly bitter with floral and herbal hops, light honey and bread dough, and a slightly minerally finish.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 prawlie (566) - Berkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 4, 2011
500 mL on draught at Zeitgeist in London. Fizzy and dark golden, almost no head. Tastes malty and a little acidic, but alright. Light malt aroma with a bit of hops. Quite nice and different to English beer.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 illidurit (1300) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - DEC 4, 2011
Small bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours rather yellow with a sudsy white head. Clean bready profile with mild bruised apple fruitiness. Vague citrus, cereal grains. Pretty straightforward without any frills, and it holds up pretty well for having sailed from the paterland. Not too watery or anything. Decent beer.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 TheJestersBeer (809) - SWEDEN - NOV 29, 2011
330ml bottle.
Pours a pale straw, white head.
The aroma is clean and quite neutral, malt, faint hops, citrus.
Dry, light to medium body, low to medium bitterness, balanced CO2.
Clean, malty taste, some hops and citrus. Quite elegant. (2011-11-12)
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Panzerfaust (509) - Hanga Roa, Easter Island, CHILE - NOV 26, 2011
Clear golden color with a big, creamy white head. Good aroma of malts with some light fruity notes: Pears and apples. Flavor is restrained but fine. More bitter than your typical Classic German Pils, the hops are present, especially in the finish. Smooth body but the aftertaste is a little dissapointing with a cardboard note. An agreeable Kölsch.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 solidfunk (662) - Ontario, CANADA - NOV 24, 2011
Smells a little off, really doesn’t taste that great - doesn’t really illustrate how a kolsh is different from a lager or bad pilsner. Just seems partway between both.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cunningham (1946) - Halden, NORWAY - NOV 9, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2012 On tap at GBBF 2010. Clear golden colour, and a nice white head. Fresh grain and a light hoppy aroma. A fine sweetness and light fruity flavour.
