Clear golden colour, lively carbonation. Slightly malty, grassy, bitter taste, with a little hint of yeastiness. A bit watery in the otherwise bitter finish, though. Kölsch is just not my type of beer, I think.

(bottle) Pale lager gold with almost no head. Very faint malt aroma. Flavor is biscuit malt, not much in the way of hops.

500 ml bottle. I suspect that I, like Oakes, lucked out and got a super-fresh bottle -- also, I just like kolsch more than most. This has a huge snowy-smooth head topping a clear deep golden body...the nose is crisp, lots of dried straw and fresh grass make for some complexity. Wonderful creamy body, velvety-milky with just a touch of crisp herbs. Not as hoppy as some, nor as assertive in the nose as it could be, but a terrific example of the style.

Not much going on with the aroma. A bit of a sour taste? Clean, clear body and very small. same with the taste. light hops and bitterness. Smoothe finish.

Very hard to distinguish Gaffel from what I remember of Reissdorf Kolsch. However, an outstanding lighter german beer as my friend Katie would back me up on. She drank it in Cologne and raved about it, so naturally I had to track it down stateside and give it a try. Very hoppy, crisp, delicious.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear, bright gold. White fluffy head. Sweet, malty, grassy, lightly floral nose. Firm, light feel. Crisp, clean, moderately bitter hop flavour. Dry, lightly nutty finish. A quaffable & refreshing brew.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Floral, hoppy, grassy aromas. Light straw, pours a very large white head, leaving some pretty lace. Clean fresh hops taste, light bodied, delightful bitteness. An extremely tasty little beer! Kolsch must be amazing on tap in Cologne.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: SEP 5, 2005 This poured a pale, straw-yellow color with a decent white head that lasted for some time. It laced the glass as I drank. Mild malt aroma, hard to detect. Nice body, a hint of fruitiness, and a slight bitter finish. Fairly respectable.

Super pale straw yellow, good head formation and retention. Smell some grassy hops and sweetness. Taste extremely light and somewhat bitter. Sweet smell not borne out in taste. Decent mouthfeel but finishes watery with a slight aftertaste of hops. Meh.
