The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

330 bottle poured into Leffe chalice. Golden colour, small head which didn’t hang around long, kept some lacing, clear. Aroma combined Chardonay grape with a really fresh bitter hoppy North German Pils aroma. Tasted Chardonay grape, fruits, had a light sourness. Finsh was bitter. Well carbonated which gave it a coarse edge, body was thick for the fairly light ABV. Had the fell of Pils mixed with Sekt which is what happens in parts of Germany.

500 ml bottle. Pours a clear light golden colour with almost no head left. Nose of sour malts. Taste is malty with a silk smooth and sour finish. Medium body and carbonation. A good classic kölsch. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500cc bottle. Pale blonde with foamy quick fading head. Nice nose but then it is just nothing special.

Very smooth and easy drinking beer. Very much a Kolsch style beer. Sweet fruity and low hop characteristics ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2014 Clear, pale golden-yellow with a soapy, quickly diminishing, white head. Nice citrusy, grassy aroma. Slightly bitter taste of grass and straw with hints of lemon. Slightly bitter finish. Thin mouthfeel, flat carbonation. What a boring beer. Quite quaffable, even a nice subtle aroma, but unfortunately with an unpleasant taste and bitterness.

Light and crisp at first, could easily enjoy a few at a time, yet strongly spiced and has a lingering aftertaste

Meh; this came highly recommended but I don't get it. I've had better domestic versions of a Kolsch, which is strange since this is supposed to be the gold standard. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

0.2l glass from tap. Of all the Kolsch beer this is definitly not the best! Not much taste at all.
