COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Pretty decent Kolsch. Yeasty and nutty but bitterness is soft. Lots of taste. Not bad ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Gaffel Haus, Köln. Clear golden body with an average, frothy, white head, mostly diminishing with fair lacing. Moderate malty (hay) and hoppy (citrus) aroma. Moderate sweet and bitter flavour with bitterish finish. Light-to-medium body with watery texture; average carbonation.

Light bread and a little perfume in the fragrance and flavor. Okay bitterness that fills the upper part of the mouth for a moment. Not a bad beer but watery towards the end. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Bottle, 33 cl. Decent, well balanced, low carbonation, small finish. Went well with kebab dish.

On tap @ Rhein Haus. Pours clear medium golden yellow with thick white head. Aroma is substantial corn nose, light crisp grassy hop notes on the back. Taste is similar - clean light crystal malt up front; dry, earthy, and grassy on the back. Actually fairly flavorful for a Kolsch, though admittedly lacking in depth.

resin, grass, barnyard, citrus, amber, clear, minimal head, light sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, light body, thin feel, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. A disappointment.

Bottle from SB. Clear pale golden, white medium head. Aroma: Bread, grains and corn with some grassy and floral notes. Maybe some banana and metal as well. Taste is grains, weeds and hints of vegetables. Medium to light body, soft texture. Not very good.

Bottle given to me by a colleague. Thanks Miso! Metallic, lightstruck, corny. True gallery of off-flavours. Not my favourite, drinkable though.
