COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

(bottle) Pale yellow body with a medium foamy white head. Dusty malty nose with herbal hops. Initially malty with hints of nuts and a fruity note and a dry quite bitter and hoppy finish for the style.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2009 draught in Köln - clear and bright golden colour with a little white foam; subtle fruity aroma with notes of malt, clean palate with a quite light malt backbone; some sweetness and slightly oily palate; quite dry finish with a moderate bitterness - easy but quite pleasant

Draft at Old Munich, Bradenton, FL. Poured clear amber color with an average fizzy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate grassy hopt aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Light to medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of short duration. I would recommend this to a freind who wants a soft beer.

On draught: Pale yellow, medium sized, firm white head; initial floral, grassy hoppiness in the aroma, but also traces of malt; the malty taste dominates, a bit fuller bodied as other examples of this style; becomes fruitier and a bit sourish towards the end, slightly bitterness in the aftertaste. O.K.

A Mes rate: Gravity serving at Zeitgeist.
Very clean gold with a thin white head. Lovely and clean with a good malt and hop balance and some slight tobacco leaves. Fresh and very drinkable.

Bereits herber Antrunk mit dezenten Malznoten. Bitterer Abgang, kein Hopfen. Wenig süffig, zum Ende hin vollmundiger. Etwas Getreide. Zurecht das Kölsch der Pilstrinker. /9/11/12/11/11

Light golden kolsch with a creamy white head. A sweet malt with notes of honey in aroma. In mouth, a nicely hopped Kolsch, with some overbearing sweetness, chalky mineral notes, much less dry than other kolsch I tried. However, this was pleasant and quaffable.

12 oz bottle. Very pale goden beer with a thick fine-laced white head. Arom aof pale malt, light bread and nice noble, lightly spicy/lightly grassy hops. Flavour starts out good, clean bready malts, moderate bitterness, some hop flavour and a fairly dry finish. Alas, there is a very distracting metallic note that ruins the overall balance.

draught Very pale gold; medium white head, fast gone leaving lace. Very malty-grassy nose, freshly mown-hay. Very hayish, also in the taste. My drinking companion complains about the balance. I agree not everything seems to go perfectly, but for me, this is the best of the industrials. Light bodied, little slickness. By far the most Pilsner-like of all Kölsch.

Pours with a very thin, frothy, white head. Body is a fizzy, clear yellow. Head lasts about 1 minite 30 seconds before reverting to just a ring. Slightly fruity smelling lager with grassy hops. Watery and grassy till the end which is a bit metallic. Watery and fizzy mouthfeel. Not bad, but overall quite boring.
