COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Bought at the SAQ. Golden body with thick foamy white head. Smells of corn, cereal and maybe hops? Flavor is somewhat mild, some earthen taste. Feels lively and fresh. Refreshing but not much going for it in the taste department.

On tap at Newark Airport. Crisp pale flavour. Lemon, malt, corn, water, wheat, bread flavour and aroma. Bitter and sweet with lemon rind and metal. Pretty decent minus the metal.

500ml can from LCBO. Pours an insane amount of foamy bubbly white head and has a clear straw coloured appearance. Some thick sticky lacing remains. Aromas of grains and wheats, light grassy hops. Flavours are mostly light toasted malts and a bit of breads as well. Some sweet notes and what seems like a buttery finish. A little bit of corn in there also, but fairly subtle and not overwhelming. Lively carbonation. Average retention.

Crystal clear medium golden body with a white, short-lived head. The moderate aroma is pretty much that of any regular pale lager, maybe with a tad sweeter fruits. Moderate flavour that follows the aroma. Light sweet taste with a moderate to light bitter finish. Light and dry mouthfeel, quite fizzy carbonation. I’ll never understand this style.

0,33 bottle Enjoyed at home. Bought at systembolaget. Beer is crisp and has a good amount of spicy noble hops and a balanced finish. Just what you’d expect really.

On tap at Gaffel am Dom. Clear golden yellow with frothy white head. Light grainy and floral aroma. Taste is light sweet malty. Light body, average carbonation, easy drinking.

Bottle @ home. Pours a crystal clear yelloq liquid with a medium white head that quickly dissipates. Grainy aroma with bread, herbs and some grass. Taste is small bodied with aberage carbonation. Taste is dry with grains, bread, herbs. Short duration then a crisp, slightly metallic and salty(!) finish with a low balancing bitterness. Lingering grassy notes and some fruit esters.

Dåligt med doft. Hittar inte direkt vad det är för smaker, gräs/jordaktig ton. Väldigt kort i smaken.

Bottle from D Byrne & Co, Clitheroe. Paler golden coloured with an extremely thin head and a small carbonation. Has a light aroma with a lager character, some hops. Feels ordinary but have never been a fan of Kolsch and this one doesn’t change my mind.

Bottle. Clear golden liquid with medium white head. Aroma of grain, bread, fruity yeast esters, fatty malt and herbal hops. Taste is very light sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of bread, grain and fatty malt. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Pretty nice.

Bottle at green sheep. Clear strow yellow colour, small white head disappears fast. Nose is dry corn, very similar to corona. Taste as well just a little bit more bitter. Dry mouthfeel. Expected different...
