The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

Clean and smooth...little hops accents a good / not great beer that would be useful on a hot day...moderately priced in Kew Gardens grocer @ $9 a sixer

0,33 l Longneck-Flasche aus einem lokalen Getränkemarkt. Klar, golden, mäßig Kohlensäure, kleine Schaumkrone. Riecht hopfig, schmeckt süßlich dann intensiv hopfig.

Bottle thanks to s_hartshorne, cheers Shane. Light golden beer with large lively head which reduces to a small head. Aroma of cereal grain and a little sweet malt. Taste is a touch herbal, pale malts, some cereal grain and a nicely balanced bitterness. Decent.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2015 Yes, min første Kölsch. Meget lys og klar. Frisk smag, men savner noget fylde. Alt i alt OK

12 oz bottle inside brown paper bag. Color not visible. Aroma is sweet, malt and hops, freshly opened can of tennis balls. Taste is light with notes of grass and hay, and an alfredo finish. Cold when first opened, warmer as time passes. Very drinkable.

Bottle from Total Wine.

Light amber pour, good white head. Typical Kolsch aroma of bread and gentle lemon. The flavor is quite thin at first, and what develops isn’t much good. Very metallic, a bit of skunk, not all that much else going on. It goes down really easy after a couple of hours playing baseball, but the beer is long gone and I still feel like I’ve been sucking on pennies. I’m sure the journey to the US hasn’t improved anything, but this is not a Kolsch I need to repeat at least in the states.
