Our tribute to the beers that once quenched the thirst of parched colonials at Admiral Gageís East India station. This UK-style IPA is rich with caramel malt and overripe stone fruit character, balanced with a big bitter finish.

Aroma is of Grapefruit and passionfruit. Bottle. Pours a clear copper colour. Taste. Has a piney flavour, with also notes of grapefruit and mandarin. Overall. A good ipa but nothing too special

330ml bottle poured into a shaker glass. Aroma - citrus and pine. Not as big on the nose as other IPAs but more than your standard pale ale. A slightly cloudy deep golden honey colour. White foam that on the first pour came to about one finger. I used the last 50mls or so to really step it up and got to about two fingers with a very lively pour. Held for a minute or two and then faded away to a ring. Some lacing so far, but nothing huge. Quite a malty and meaty(? - perhaps savoury is a better word) flavour up front; followed by malty sweetness (which despite the label, I didnít expect from an IPA) and then tartness at the end which lingers on the palate. Would really go well with a strong cheddar or zesty foods like salsa, or a mango chutney (so mexican salads and indian food - no surprises there). Overall a surprising IPA due to the maltiness. Although I liked it, it isnít my favourite and not what I had in mind when I thought: "lets have an IPA tonight". It will go very well with the fish tacos tonight, but after every mouthful all I really want is mango chutney. Nice beer, but not what I was expecting in an IPA.

Not a bad English-style IPA from Gage Roads. From a 330ml bottle it pours unfiltered amber-brown with a medium eggshell-white head that reduces to a stable film. Nose and tongue is malty and earthy with floral hops and orangey citrus. Finishes with a light dry hop bitterness. Medium body with a soft carbonation and easy drinkability.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2015 Bottle. Pours a gold-amber with some biscuit malt and citrus aroma. Tastes good, a solid sweet malt base with a nice level of hopping for a Brit IPA. Earthy caramel notes, a touch of fruit, smooth to drink. Worth a try.

Malt, yeast, pepper, and a gin-like juniper twang. Light at the front, with the pepper lingering at the back. Not bad.

330ml bottle into schooner glass. Slight aroma, citric hops but also a little malt. Nice copper coloured beer with white head. Medium carbonation. Not as bitter as I expected. Definitely hoppy but with a smoky malt background. Finish is lingering and bitter. A bit understated but drinkable.

Bottle from bws, broadbeach. Clear copper color, white head. Aroma is more malty than hoppy. Malty body but nice kick of dry hops.

330 ml bottle. Pours amber, mediocre head, stays for a bit. Aroma is toasted bread, breadcrumbs, some caramel. Taste has also some caramel, bit of hops (not much though), malt base is strong. Drinks well but for me it feels more like a malty pale ale than IPA.

320ml bottle. Pours a bright, light amber with a subdued, off white head which reduced to a long lasting ring and only traces of lacing. A moderate hoppy aroma; floral, bread, honey, citrus and caramel. Medium to high bitterness with some obvious malt sweetness. Medium body, dry, earthy, bitter, nutty finish. Quite drinkable. A pretty decent example of a Pommy style IPA. 8.

Could think of worse beers by the guys at Gage Roads, sweet caramel malt and slightly sour fruit notes underlined by medium carbonation and earthy hop bitterness.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2015 I recently got a case of this for the first time in awhile. I used to rate it as a bang for buck session beer but found it a bit wanting this time round, even in the $52 price range. I can really only give it an average rating. In this price range Iíd rather be drinking a Dundee IPA or something fairly generic like a Fat Yak.
