This beer doesn’t hold back. We start with as much Canadian barley as we can fit in our mash mixer, then add some toasty Munich malt and toffee-flavoured crystal malt for a rich, malty balance to the hop onslaught that follows. We cram our kettle with Centennial and Cascade hop varieties for refreshing clean bitterness and hop flavour, then dry hop in the fermenter for an aroma that will spank you right in the face. Party like its 1772!

Pours clear to cloudy pale amber with two fingers of pillowy ivory head, excellent retention and lacing. (4/5) Nose is light resin, citrus, floral, grassy, crystal malt. (7/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry mildly bitter finish. (4/5) To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much - but this is a pretty decent IPA, actually. The “1772” moniker makes you think it’s going to be an English-style IPA, but it really isn’t: the use of starts-with-C hops (Centennial, Cascade) and the absence of Maris Otter (Crystal and Munich malts are used instead) make this much more of an American style than a true English style, as does the higher ABV. It grows on you, too - though the higher ABV might be a factor there… And as far as appearance goes, this thing looks pretty good for the first three quarters of the big boy bottle. If a little yeast cloudiness bothers you, stop pouring there (and drink the rest from the bottle). (15/20)

Not so tasty IPA. Pretty basic and not too complex. Drinkable. I liked the place, gahan house. On tap in Charlottetown.

On tap - rusty orange with a medium head and a wall of lacing on the glass. Strong hop aroma and an orange/grapefruit hop taste as well as some orange peel. Decently bitter. I liked it! Not a west coast hop bomb but good as far as Canada goes.

Bottle shared by solidfunk at the DC Summer Saison & Sour Tasting, 7/12/14. Pours a clear copper color with a thin white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of cinnamon(?), caramel malt, floral hops. The taste is bitter hops, caramel and biscuit malt. Medium bodied, slight lingering bitterness. Yay new province (or is that a territory?) tick!

My Bottom Line:
Muddled hop resins scent this drinkable, but barely passable IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the cloudy amber.
-Hops smell and taste tired even though this brew is supposed to be fresh.
-Malts are also poorly defined.
-Mouthfeel is lean and bubbly.

On tap at The Gahan House as part of the sampler. Pours a slightly hazy deep chestnut color with a smallish white head. Aromas of earthy citrus hops and a light crackery bready caramel maltiness. The flavor is bitter and resinous with a solid shot of caramel maltiness behind it. Decent IPA but it relies more on harsh bitterness than smooth hop flavor.

Good malt profile and some decent. Pours orange with good head and lacing. Bottle thanks to Travlr.
