Tap at the Gahan House. Dark brown (near black) in colour. Thin brown coloured head, some lace. The aroma of light coffee, dark chocolate, slightly sweet, some roast. The flavour was of cold coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, nutty, some smoke and caramel. Dry chalky mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a lingering bitterness with some roasted coffee beans. By far the best beer that the Gahan House makes.

Tap at the brewpub. Strong coffee aroma. Black color, brown head, very good lace. Light sweet, very aggresive with lots of coffee and bitter roasted finish (my daughter asked me after tasting it herself why I wouldn’t just order a coffee). Very dry and a little thin that’s a downpoint.

Sampler tray & pint at the pub. Dark ruby-brown colour with a small mocha head. Aroma is rich, nutty, smoky, roasty - really nice! All of those notes come through in the flavour, along with espresso and bitter chocolate. Long finish, nicely hopped, well balanced. The body is a little thin, but otherwise, this is a fantastic stout, easily the best beer in the Gahan House line-up.

Roasted malt / barley aroma (quite interesting). Roasted attack in the mouth with some caramel tone then big and heavy bitterness (not necessarly from the hop) from the roasted grains.

I really enjoyed this one. rich tasting beer with hints of coffee and chocolate, but certainly not overpowering making it quite enjoyable even for people who do not normally enjoy stout. worth a try.

Very nice classy rich coffee aroma. Nicely roasted malt. Smoothness of this beer is another strong point of this beer.

Black with a brown head. Light coffee in the nose with actually a touch of citrus hops coming through as well. Very light roastiness. The body is nicely smooth with some coffee and a light roastiness that lasts. Okay stout, could be more assertive.

Coffee, chicory nose, deep brown, small cappuccino head. Roasted coffee, a little smokey towards the end, nice hops at the finish too. Light bodied, fine bitterness here, A really nice treat. Yes, Thanks Oakes!

Black w/ small brown head. Big, roasty aroma of coffee & dark chocolate. Thick, chewy body. Complex, roasty flavour of burnt coffee, dark chocolate, smoke & nuts w/ an underlying milky sweetness.

Pitch black in colour, fully opaque with a decently thick brown head. Sweet aroma with a bunch of coffee and a decent amount of roasted malt. Somewhat subtle flavour with the definate roasty and cofee flavours. Aftertaste very bittering and fairly subtle. Overall, a fairly good beer, definately worth trying. Thanks to Josh (Oakes) for bringing a growler of this for everyone to share! I sampled this beer at Joey_Capps' on 13-September-2003 in Hamilton, Ontario.
