   AROMA 3/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 5/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 8/20

Bottle (don’t remember the exact date, but it was very fresh) at Au Cesar Gormand, Provins, 4/23/15
Touch of haziness (unfiltered) leaving the sediment behind, the pour produces a pale copper-gold body with a fluffy white head that fades slowly to a ring.
Heavy, heavy DMS upon first pouring. It eventually burns off, for the most part, but light bean notes linger (YUM!). Notes of vanilla, very dry, floury biscuits and the requisite peppery hops. No alcohol in the nose, nor much of anything really. Even for a farm brewery, the yeast isn’t doin much here. At most some dry yellow fruit skin-like notes and maybe a touch of banana....
Flavor is sadly, very washed out. The mash temp seems way too high as there is just no malt sweetness nor any comforting, soft malt texture. Granted, it’s not astringent and scratchy, but it’s just a mildly fruity, watery golden ale with a dash of peppery hops thrown in on the finish. Kept hoping with warming, something interesting would emerge, but no. The carbonation is well-done (bottle conditioned) and the bottle is absolutely beautiful, though! Needs a lot of work on the recipe and brewing.
Sadly, the brewer calls it a Biere de Garde, so I guess that will stand. This is about as similar to a biere de garde as my cat is.

Artisanale francilienne très décevante, ne m’a pas du tout convaincu. A retester néanmoins. Bouteille achetée chez La cave à bulles, Paris, France.

Bottle shared with Joes and Dutchdrebus @ weekly tasting. Hazy yellow color, medium sized white head that lasts for a decent while. Smell and taste malts, musty, cardboard, old. Could be an old bottle, but this is bad.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein leicht trübes orangegoldenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch fruchtig malzig, würzig, hefig. Geschmack fruchtig süß, würzig malzig.

Very much a Bière de la Garde with its golden mostly clear appearance and soft sweet malt base, with low yet typical yeast profile. This particular one is quite smooth in aroma and even more so in taste. Soft hops make this a nice drinkable beer and it’s never too sweet. True to the style (without trying to, I suppose) and easy to drink. Accessible beer that will appeal to every beer drinker except perhaps the hop head. (Stylish 33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

Big thanks to quack-duck for that bottle. Looks really interesting. Beer in the glass very zippy, huge head. Starts dry and fruity, reminds me of a good white wine. Fruity notes of apricot. Finish dry-malty, modest alcoholic. An interesting beer!
