3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Skyview (5023) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - AUG 16, 2010
On draught at the Galena Brewing Company brewpub in downtown Galena, Illinois. Pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with a slow dissolving beige head that leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of coffee, chocolate malt, a hint of black malt, and some floral hops. Taste is medium bodied, with toasted dark malt, coffee, bakers chocolate and some grassy hops. Finish is slightly dry, some acidic aftertaste texture with a toasted dark malt aftertaste with a mild grassy hop bitterness that slowly disappears. More of a dry Irish Stout than a Sweet Stout.

On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest. The aroma touches on chocolate and coffee but not much else. Mildly chocolate and coffee flavor, mixed with water and seltzer. Meh.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours very dark black with small tan head. The aroma is chocolate, toast, distinct oats, Polynesian coffee, a creamy note, and a hint of caramel. The flavor is nice and roasty with some grainy oat notes, slight bitter chocolate, a bit of toast, and a deep coffee tone. Good.

Bottle shared by nuplastikk...thanks Greg! - Pours dark brownish black with a foamy tan head. Nose is a bit of sour milk, smooth dark malt--though not a ton of pungency in the smell. Taste is smooth and mellow with dark bread malt, prominent oatmeal, and some chocolate. Thickish with a really smooth carbonation.

On tap at GTMW 2011, pours a very dark brown/black with a nice brown head, the aroma and flavor were notes of chocolate with a somewhat bitter finish, some coffee mixed in there as well, didn’t make a huge impact on me with all the other stouts I had this day.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 tmoreau (1625) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - OCT 20, 2011
Poured from a gift growler from neighbors who very recently visited the brewery. Displayed a black/brown hue with lighter, brownish tan, billowly head foam on top of darker bubbles, and curtainy webbing as lacing. The aroma was very roasty, with baker’s chocolate, espresso, a touch of smoke, and hints of caramel and molasses. The flavor offered smooth malt, a touch of woodiness, and low hop bitterness at the back in this "a bit heftier than medium" bodied brew.. Low carbonation was not a deterring factor. There was a light creaminess to the mouthfeel, and a pleasant dryness to the finish. Good complexity, and very quaffable.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hombrepalo (1623) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 17, 2011
4oz pour at the brewery. Dark beer with a light tan head. Little lacing. Slight roastiness in the nose with a bit of oats and caramel. Sweet. Smooth velvety creamy mouth-feel. A slight bitterness. Very drinkable and almost a session beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 fidelis83 (1589) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - OCT 11, 2011
Pours a nearly black dark brown with a 1-2 finger tan head that has great retention, and leaves really nice looking lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roast nuts, light coffee, dark caramel, a hint of sweetness, possibly lactose, light spicy and citrus hops. Flavor is coffee and chocolate right away, roasted nuts, slightly over cooked granola, roast malt, a hint of char, light smoke, milky sweetness, burnt sugar and bitter hops to finish. Palate is light to medium bodied, creamy on entry and has a moderately effervescent, but very sharp feeling carbonation, almost feels a bit acidic, finishes slightly creamy. This was a highly enjoyable stout, it would definitely score a little higher if it weren’t for the overly sharp carbonation.

Thirsty Troll Beer Fest. Pour is deep brown/black with a tan head. Aroma shows chocolate, oats, and moderate roast. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of caramel, coffee, and a touch of vanilla creme. Overall
body is moderate, soft, and finishes with some roasted bitterness.
