| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | May 5, 2004 bottled: popped this one open last night with some pizza. mahogony brown with a dignified tan head that crept away. the nose mostly sweet choc malt. into the mouth wow, different flavors, that ive never experienced. not particularly good but not bad. light choc malting (like a thin porter) with this over the top fresh hay taste that clings to your palate. maybe vegetables. not sure if its coming from the hops or the malt or the combo, very different tasting. not what i expected. worth a whirl on the ole filiform. would love to try out of the cask to compare. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2004 Bottle Conditioned. Little to no carbonation, tastes like a cask mild. Barely noticable that it has a 1.5% ABV increase over most milds. Chocolate malts, perhaps coffee. Good to finally see a decent mild in a bottle, just a shame its harder to find than cask mild.
Served at 18 degrees celcius (thank you new digital stick thermometer). apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 1, 2004 Aroma is nutty and highly malty. This is indeed a mild beer. Notes of roasted nuts and a hint of cocoa in the flavor. The finish is thin, and a bit too sour for my taste. notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 1, 2004 Deep, reddish brown in color, with a frothy, tan head, nice lace - aroma of yeast, chocolate - flavor is initially bitter, almost tart - bitterness subsides and flavors of bread (or pastry) and some subtle notes of dark fruit - chalky texture that is quite unenjoyable - finish tastes like I imagine cola without the sugar added would taste - nothing special. biermonk (259), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 12, 2004 Wonderful beer to behold...gorgeously dark with a heaping haed...Nose is fantastic of sweet malts and dark fruit...Flavor is very nice some smoke reveals itself as the swallow progresses...Some fruits and bitterness as flavors further develope...Downside is its apparent lack of body almost flimsy ,too thin...Overall not a bad beer BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 6, 2004 Dark brown, dense body, good thick head of foam. Malty sweet fruity aromas, rich and yeasty. Dark fruits, malty sweet flavor, burnt treacle but also surrounded by some toasty and nutty dryness. It also has a nice sharp bitter finish to it. My one complaint about the bottle I tried is that the carbonation was a little heavy on the palate. Would love to try it out on cask some time. Braudog (3789), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 4, 2004 Solid dark brown with subtle fizzy head. Stark mediciney aroma. Smooth beer with smoky character, overtones of fruity flavors (pie cherry?). Bit watery. OK. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2003 I am still not sure what to make of this one. A very nutty burnt aroma, with a slightly roasted malty taste, with some dark fruits, i.e. currants and raisins, but something wass off kilter I believe, or perhaps that is the way it is supposed to taste.
