COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned (mainly for export). Canned version is pasteurised and listed separately.
History : Horndean Special Bitter (HSB) was first brewed in 1959 to meet a growing demand for a higher strength bitter. Sales growth was slow throughout the sixties when BBB and the cask milds were the predominant Gales beers. However, following the creation of CAMRA and the greater public interest in cask conditioned beer, HSB sales grew throughout the seventies and eighties and became Gales major brand. Production moved to Fullers in early 2006.

Backlog. On tap at Green Lion Inn. A decent example of the style, not as good as the Fullerís regular ESB though.

Bottle 0,50L. Well, Iím rating these one bought in the bottle, not on tap. Clear, amber-red colour, with stabile, off-white head. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel, toffee, some fruits. Taste is light sweet, more or less, with light bitter finish. It has medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation and metallic finish.

Mid-amber beer with the accent on malt. Quite sweet but pleasant enough if a little standard. Fullerís re-creations of Galeís beers just donít excite my tastebuds.

Taste comprises dark fruit, bready malt, berry fruit tang, brown bread dough, nutty ripple. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation with a dry fruit lead tang in the finale. Solid enough ESB.
