3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ughsmash (5631) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 25, 2008
2002 bottle. Poured deeper caramel with zero head sticking around. The aroma picked up rich, well-aged caramel and darker fruits, showing heavy oxidation.. the hops were gone, but the malts aged rather gracefully. The flavor found darker fruits, caramel, and toffee at the sweet, again-very-oxidized core.. prickly alcohol showed toward the back.. tasty, but quite unlike its former self. Syrupy and thick on the palate with low carbonation and warm alcohol feel.. a decent deal degraded, but still alright.

Thanks Jason! Pours to a hazy brown body with no head. The aroma is strong. Oxidized Maris Otter, figs, dates, and apples. Very complex. The flavor is a malty and sweet barley wine with notes of milk chocolate and dark fruits. Rich tobacco. The palate is medium full bodied and creamy.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ofortuna (322) - Grafton, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 21, 2008
Many thanks, yet again, to Jason. Wow, aroma is intense. Yum, kettle caramelization. Some oxidation and odd sweet notes. Nice viscosity. After a few sips, the cidery notes just take over. Later becoming a bit too much. Well crafted, but past its prime.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackDonald (1127) - Boise, Idaho, USA - APR 30, 2008
2002 Vintage - This has stood the test of time a little better than some of the other Gales beers. Still has some body left to it, deep dark fruit flavors, with a semi-sweet maltiness, which turns somewhat bitter and vinous at times. A light bit of oxidation, and somewhat flat, but still has some life left in her to enjoy.

A Bottle in the Spytighen Duvel in Turnhout (B). It’s a medium brown colored beer. It has a beige head with big bubbles. It disappears at ones. It has a great aroma of nuts, sweet, dark malts, oak brandy and port. The taste is very rich, chocolate, dark fruits, nuts, and a port flavor. This is a great beer.

Another wonder of the beer world from Gales - Deep chestnut body with a long lasting big bubbled off white head; The nose i slightly oxidized in a way that quite familiar to the Prize Old Ale, when it gets a short time to breath the oxidization fades and gives way to the clearest notes of Agen Prunes I have ever experienced in something not an Agen Prune, it has something petrol like chalky to it that I cant figure out but love; The body is oily smooth, salty, bitter super serious and super complex, it has a complexity that is only found in the corked Gales brews; It finishes with a balanced alcohol burn that bite only shortly and is taken over by salty bitter notes and the oils of the texture, lots of wooden complex aromas. Incredible and excellent!!!!
