3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 heemer77 (5008) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - JAN 23, 2005Pours a dark ruddy red and brown. No head at all. The aroma is all English barley wine with caramel and toffee. Also some earthy mushrooms and some bread. The taste is very different. A rich mix of oak, toffee and some cocao powder. The mouthfeel is dry and almost abrasive. No carbonation. Some smoke and gooseberries in the finish. This is the driest barley wine I have ever had. Very fascinating.

275 ml bottle sampled in 2010. A reddish amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, dry fruit, alcohol and some oxidation. Flavor is sweet malt, dry fruit and alcohol like sherry or port. Some degree of oxidation, but not in a bad way. Feels both robust and smooth at the same time. Full body and long aftertaste.

Bottle. Slightly murky reddish orange pour, zero head. Nose is soy, molasses, dark fruit, and wood. Palate is moderate and a bit flat. Taste is very complex - soy sauce with some spice (reminds me of dipping sushi in a wasabi-loaded soy sauce tray), woody elements, and a healthy dose of red wine character. Interesting and tasty.

THX Ungstrup. Pours a hazy brown with no head. Sweet with lots of rye bread and øllebrød. Lots of alcohol notes and residual sugars. Bready. Medium to full bodied. No carbonation.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 imdownthepub (8470) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - FEB 16, 2012
Bottled, 275ml cork & foiled, from Geoff & Janet Day (Those were the Days!). Copper, amber with no head. Massive alcohol, whisky aroma leading straight into the flavour. So much alcohol it’s hard to get anything else other than a touch of tartish oxidation, and I know where this has been kept for the last 10 years. Some fruit, raisins, sultanas with a Belgian yeasty note, but overall this is pure Barley Wine, not a favourite but glad I tried it. Must get this years version.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 11/20 nsquishee (508) - Richfield, Minnesota, USA - FEB 2, 2012
I struggled to want to drink this, but there was a reason that an almost 10 year old beer is available for $3.45. Smells pretty good, more like a wine than an beer. Very dark burgundy color. Tastes strikingly sour and intensely sweet with a lingering cork/barrel flavor. Flavors of wine, tannins, and raisins.

Hazy brown with a small off-white head. A rather oxidized aroma with nice nuances of dried fruit, mint and spices. Dry and malty flavour with fruity notes, and again, rather oxidized
