No carbonation, no head, cloudy dull brown colour. Plum/raisin/sider aroma, quite sweet. Flavours much the same, cloying, alcohol bite - virtually undrinkable. Must have been a dodgy bottle, looking at the rest of the ratings...

27,5 cl bottle @ Pikkulintu, BBE
Aroma has lots of raisins, some alcohol and distant moldy cellar tones. Flavour is odd with raisins, moldy tones, cardboard, alcohol and licorice. Definitely past its prime but not completely bad.

Beer4000 (4576) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - APR 14, 2013
275 ml bottle sampled in 2010. A reddish amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, dry fruit, alcohol and some oxidation. Flavor is sweet malt, dry fruit and alcohol like sherry or port. Some degree of oxidation, but not in a bad way. Feels both robust and smooth at the same time. Full body and long aftertaste.

Bottle @ Vihreä Haltiatar Been in a closet now for 11 years! Thanks to Hannu. Pours murky muddy. Aroma is raisins, mämmi, alcohol, dark fruits. Flavor is vinegar, alcohol, malts, roasted malts , some chocolate. After taste is roasted, dry palate. Swell!

BVery (6842) - Burnsville, Minnesota, USA - APR 23, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Bottle. Slightly murky reddish orange pour, zero head. Nose is soy, molasses, dark fruit, and wood. Palate is moderate and a bit flat. Taste is very complex - soy sauce with some spice (reminds me of dipping sushi in a wasabi-loaded soy sauce tray), woody elements, and a healthy dose of red wine character. Interesting and tasty.

THX Ungstrup. Pours a hazy brown with no head. Sweet with lots of rye bread and øllebrød. Lots of alcohol notes and residual sugars. Bready. Medium to full bodied. No carbonation.

Bottled, 275ml cork & foiled, from Geoff & Janet Day (Those were the Days!). Copper, amber with no head. Massive alcohol, whisky aroma leading straight into the flavour. So much alcohol it’s hard to get anything else other than a touch of tartish oxidation, and I know where this has been kept for the last 10 years. Some fruit, raisins, sultanas with a Belgian yeasty note, but overall this is pure Barley Wine, not a favourite but glad I tried it. Must get this years version.

I struggled to want to drink this, but there was a reason that an almost 10 year old beer is available for $3.45. Smells pretty good, more like a wine than an beer. Very dark burgundy color. Tastes strikingly sour and intensely sweet with a lingering cork/barrel flavor. Flavors of wine, tannins, and raisins.

Sample from 33 cl. bottle. 2002 Vintage. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear, brown colour with no head. Strong, sweet aroma with light notes of ripe fruits. Full bodied. No carbonation. Finish is sweet and lasting - coffee, chocolate, toffee and light caramel. An old beer still with some enjoyment.
