COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned. 275ml bottle. Corked.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and minute amounts of black malt and brewing sugar; Fuggles, Goldings and Challenger.
Matured for 12 months in wooden casks.
It is reddish in color with hops and apple fruit on the nose, spicy and malty in the mouth, and a dry, even tart fruity finish with hints of raisins and apple.
The slow work of the yeast in the bottle may increase the alcohol content to 12% or even more. After several years of aging Prize Old Ale gains a more complex palate with Calvados like character. It is said that Prize Old Ale is at its best after 20 years of maturing.
Bottled as Milestones Pale Ale to celebrate the opening of the Milestones Museum.

Bottled 2005. Sour fruity aroma with woddy notes. Mahogony in colour. Hardly any head. No Carbonation. Initially light bodied. Sour taste with some sweetness, and hints of tobacco and oak. Not really great but different. Maybe more years of storage will improve this one.

27,5 cl vax-top bottle vintage 2005 (BBE 12/2010) @ Ølfestival København 2012
Opened with a screw and pliers due to the lack of opener
Aroma is sour with cherries and earthy notes. Also some oak. No CO2 on palate. Flavour has redcurrants, some sour cherries and earthy notes. Dry finish with some warming alcohol. Quite different from the new Prize Old Ale.

Bottled in 1996. Pours a murky reddish-brown with no head at all. Aroma of ripened fruit, sherry, and alcohol. This bottle had NO carbonation. Medium light mouthfeel. Flavor of sherry and sweet caramel fades to a lingering, well, bad taste in your mouth. No hop bitterness. Maybe a younger version is better, I’m afraid to try.

Vintage 2005. Pours a slightly hazy deep mahogany color with no head or lacing. Aroma is a rich blend of dark fruit, hint of spice and brandy. The taste is a cross between the dark fruit sweetness and acidity of fortified wine, nicely done. Very subtle bitterness and clean finish. Medium body, silky smooth with no hint of the 9% ABV. Quite the sipper. A unique ale from start to finish.

Redlight Redlight/Draft/2005 vintage. This one poured dark like cola with no head at all. Nose consisted of musk, some light dark fruit, and vinous qualities. This one was flat with no carbonation retention and a somewhat thin mouthfeel. Taste was like a port with some raisin and slight funky notes. Drinikable and enjoyable but strange. Never had a brew quite like it. It was more like wine than beer to me.

Chipalsa (707) - Florida, USA - APR 6, 2012
2005 edition on tap @ Redlight Redlight. Out pours this murky brown body with hardly a head and smells of wet paint, sour fruit and basement musk? Great! The flavor was very tart and a tad fruity with notes of cocoa, grapefruit peel and honey. Though funky and complex, this beer was rather session-able and quite a treat to a beer geek.

Koelschtrinker (7060) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - APR 6, 2012
5/10/7/13/13/11

Years 2000 and 2005, very similar but 2000 was somewhat better overall. Colour similar to soy sauce, no head. Sherry and raisins in the aroma. Thin palate, no co2. Slight after taste of solubles, very lightly acidic reminiscent of vinegar.

Zymatore draft of this beer, from 2001. Mild wine smell. Pours cloudy ruby color, no head. Tastes of sweet grapefruit, cinnamon, oak, and a hint of whiskey. Clean finish.

Stubby little fucker from 1996. Thanks to durhambeer for sharing. Good fucking fuck this was infernally bad. Briney in anything but a happy way, flavors a mixture of rotted cork and oyster sauce. Body was remarkably thin (would that the flavors were thinner, actually). Almost didn’t want to inflict this on my drain.
