COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned. 275ml bottle. Corked.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and minute amounts of black malt and brewing sugar; Fuggles, Goldings and Challenger.
Matured for 12 months in wooden casks.
It is reddish in color with hops and apple fruit on the nose, spicy and malty in the mouth, and a dry, even tart fruity finish with hints of raisins and apple.
The slow work of the yeast in the bottle may increase the alcohol content to 12% or even more. After several years of aging Prize Old Ale gains a more complex palate with Calvados like character. It is said that Prize Old Ale is at its best after 20 years of maturing.
Bottled as Milestones Pale Ale to celebrate the opening of the Milestones Museum.

2005 bottle from A.J.s. Fruity nose, fresh plums, raisins, green apple, soy, musty barrel. Reddish brown. Flat. Nicely fruity, lightly tart, salty, Worcestershire sauce, very nice cherry/berry flavors. Apple too. Interesting. flat, oily, silky. I like it, though it is a bit of a strange bird.

2005 version. Some citrus. Hazy red cloudy pour. Light tangy finish with some bitterness. Some residual malt. Low carbonation. Not something that should have been aged this long. Old bottle found at Charleston Beer Exchange.

1997 random grab. Pours brownish plum with fine nose of dried fruits and some wood. Tastes of plums, wood, vinous, leaves, raisins, and medicinal. A bit oxidized and flat. Old beer tastes for sure but interesting none the less.

March 27, 2015 - 275 ml bottle from Blue Max. Muddy brown pour with limited bubbly head. Aroma was malty, caramel and alcohol. Taste was malty with some caramel but very thin and watery, which made this rough to drink. A little bit of the alcohol came out in the finish.

2005 bottle via Denmark, murky brown and flat as a pancake, the nose is musty and oxidised nose, with a faint lactic tang. Body is oxidised barley wine, sweet and dry with very faint sourness. Not good, I guess the cork leaked. :-(

Bottle thanks to Casey, with Peter, Ben, and Travis. Bottle was from 2003. Pours brown with hints of dark amber. Aroma is malty with some toffee and fig newtons. Very light carbonation. Some dark fruits, dates. Slightly sour. Flavor was a little flat. But still a really nice beer. Thanks so much, Casey!

2005 vintage. 275mL bottle, courtesy of fiulijn (thanks a lot, Alex), pours a dirty dark brown with a tiny bubbly beige head. Aroma brings out notes of sherry oxidation, caramel, bready malts, and some dark fruits. Flavour brings out lovely tartness, without being infected, sherry oxidation, toffee and bready caramel malt. Despite the oxidation which seems to be intentional, this doesnít appear to have gone off in any sense. Lovely beer.

No foam with this 2005 corked bottle. It has a rusty-murky look to it. Light Port notes with a distinct tartness and lots of booze in the nose. Same goes for the taste. Though itís going on 10 years old, despite the lack of carbonation, I reckon it needs more time to develop. Iíll buy a few more bottles.

Aroma is vinous/dark fruit, scotch and black malt, somewhat odd considering it was minute. The flavor is dark/black malts, black liquorice, dark bread, scotch/peat, earthy notes, very thick/slick texture and a tart/sour/increasingly funky finish.

"1996 vintage had 3/21/13. Maybe the oldest beer Iíve ever had. Completely flat and maybe a hint o oxidation, but the pruniness and dark fruit is still pleasantly in the forefront of the aroma and flavor. Donít think this ever had any hops. Lightly sweet. Really not too shabby. If it werenít for the feel Iíd like this quite a bit."
