3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from 2000 at the stumbling monk in Seattle. How often do you see a pre-911 bottle of beer at a bar? I couldn’t resist. It poured completely flat with no carbonation at all and zero lacing or head. The aroma was amazing. Burbon, vanilla, alcohol, thick and sticky smelling. The taste unfortunately was a pretty big letdown. It tasted flat out old, a little too old and past its prime. Vinegar and apple juice mostly with some malts in the background. Wish I could say it was better but it wasn’t. This should have been drunk about 5 years earlier I think.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
2005 bottle pours a hazy deep red with some tight, off white head. Nose has apples and brandy, still some citrus, plum, raisin, toffee, musty, some wet wood. Flavor follows with a touch more roast than expected, green apple, raisin, tart cherry, light brandy. Finishes a bit boozy, but all in all, probably peaking.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2005 bottle from A.J.s. Fruity nose, fresh plums, raisins, green apple, soy, musty barrel. Reddish brown. Flat. Nicely fruity, lightly tart, salty, Worcestershire sauce, very nice cherry/berry flavors. Apple too. Interesting. flat, oily, silky. I like it, though it is a bit of a strange bird.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2005 version. Some citrus. Hazy red cloudy pour. Light tangy finish with some bitterness. Some residual malt. Low carbonation. Not something that should have been aged this long. Old bottle found at Charleston Beer Exchange.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 15/20
1997 random grab. Pours brownish plum with fine nose of dried fruits and some wood. Tastes of plums, wood, vinous, leaves, raisins, and medicinal. A bit oxidized and flat. Old beer tastes for sure but interesting none the less.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
March 27, 2015 - 275 ml bottle from Blue Max. Muddy brown pour with limited bubbly head. Aroma was malty, caramel and alcohol. Taste was malty with some caramel but very thin and watery, which made this rough to drink. A little bit of the alcohol came out in the finish.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
2005 bottle via Denmark, murky brown and flat as a pancake, the nose is musty and oxidised nose, with a faint lactic tang. Body is oxidised barley wine, sweet and dry with very faint sourness. Not good, I guess the cork leaked. :-(

Some dark fruits, dates. Slightly sour. Flavor was a little flat. But still a really nice beer. Thanks so much, Casey!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2005 vintage. 275mL bottle, courtesy of fiulijn (thanks a lot, Alex), pours a dirty dark brown with a tiny bubbly beige head. Aroma brings out notes of sherry oxidation, caramel, bready malts, and some dark fruits. Flavour brings out lovely tartness, without being infected, sherry oxidation, toffee and bready caramel malt. Despite the oxidation which seems to be intentional, this doesn’t appear to have gone off in any sense. Lovely beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
No foam with this 2005 corked bottle. It has a rusty-murky look to it.
Light Port notes with a distinct tartness and lots of booze in the nose.
Same goes for the taste. Though it’s going on 10 years old, despite the lack of carbonation, I reckon it needs more time to develop.
I’ll buy a few more bottles.
