3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500 ml bottle into snifter, 2007 vintage best before 12/18/2010. Pours extremely hazy dark reddish brown color with a small foamy light khaki head with decent retention, that reduces to a spotty foamy cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of huge prune, raisin, fig, toast, red wine, molasses, caramel, chocolate, bread, earth, tobacco, and light herbal. Pretty nice aromas with good complexity and balance. Taste of raisin, cherry, prune, red wine, toast, molasses, caramel, roasted malt, chocolate, earth, tobacco, wood, light cardboard, and herbal. Moderate wine-like earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark fruit, toast, roasted malt, chocolate, earth, tobacco, cardboard, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Pretty nice flavor balance with good complexity; fair amount of oxidation noticed; slight cloying flavors noticed after the finish. Light carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, slick, syrupy, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is decent. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a pretty solid old ale. Some good flavor complexity with decent balance; though a bit cloying, it was quite smooth to sip on. This was fairly enjoyable.

Bottle thnx to matt
2007 vintage as to be expected.
Pours bit clear, dark amberbrown,. Small white head. Smell is sweet, bit port. Sharp, yet round.
Taste is sharp port, sugar, milkchocolate aspects ( white chocolate, even) . Bit dusty. Perhaps a bit over its most charming period, but still fine.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Light earnest clear dark ambery brown, lick of a off white head. Big sugary cola bottle bag, edge of oxidization. Lemon cola, vibrant malt and lightest vinegar tinge. Sourish vibrance to the mouthfeel but the light coppery finish shakes things a little. Localised crisp bitterness on the linger. I enjoyed it but I’ve no idea what happened here.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not sure where I got this from but had this at Adina Apartment Hotel, Berlin, Germany, Saturday 16th November 2013 Wonderfully tart and tangy, sour even. Six years young this has aged really well. Sour fruit on nose, Loz is convinced that this will have a meatiness but we’re both surprised that it has nothing like. One of those wonderfully quirky British beers that sort if defies a mainstream catergorisation. Lovely beer, ok it may not have such a cute corked bottle as the original but to be fair I had a few duffers with the originals, sonehow I don’t think that’ll happen here. Good beer. 3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Review from notes:
A - Pours a hazy brown with a thin khaki head.
S - Raisins, prunes, dates, dark sweet bread, thick caramel malt, woody apples, new leather, has a sharp but sweet candy aroma, chocolate covered raspberries and alcohol.
T - Tangy fruit, cherries, raspberries, woody undertones, tart grapes, green apples, very woody with a dry tannic finish.
M - Low carbonation, smooth and drying finish,
Wonderfully complex aroma, the flavor was more tart and the tartness grows as it warms. A little weird but very good. I’ll let my other bottle go a few more years before I try it again.

500 ml bottle, vintage 2007. Murky brown body with practically no head. Aroma of caramel malt and dry fruit. Flavor is sweet malty, caramel, dry fruit, warming alcohol, vinous and moderate bitterness. Fine body and long, sweet malty aftertaste. Nice.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
3/1/2013. Really enjoyed this. Pours brown-red with a thin white head. Aroma is vanilla, wood, earth, sour. Taste is sour apple, vinous, cherries, wild, sweet, excellent. Mouth feel is syrupy, oily, chewy. Very pleased to have this shared with me. I wish this were readily available; I would drink it often.
