This rating is for Zymatore Gale's Prize Old Ale. Part of the barrel aging Zymatore project, this beer was aged by the importer/distributor (United) in French Oak from Ransom Winery & Distillery in Oregon, which previously contained Pinot Noir. On tap at Pizza Paradiso in Georgetown, Washington, DC. Hazy, dark orange, brown with small head and fair lacing that recedes quickly. Aroma of cherries, yeast, malt and dark fruit. Sweet aroma. Taste of sour cherries, sweet dark fruit and malt. Nice balance of sweet and sour, but not much complexity. Light body and carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled, 0.5l. Clear amber brown color, medium sized tan alike head and lively carbonation. Very rich aroma with strong notes of caramel, dried fruits and sherry, while hops are smelled only directly from the bottle. Sweet fruity start, followed by sherry hit in the head. Mouthfeel is warming, while finish is very lightly bitter. Full bodied with oily texture and lively carbonation in palate. Decent quality, but really too strong for my taste...

Pours beautiful ruby red color with small head. Aroma of fruits and barnyard notes. Flavor of sour fruits, plum and malts. A bit barley wine like brew, could have ageing potential.

2011 Bottle @Trapissed’s house (my bottle) Dark amber with fruity sherry notes on the nose. In flavour its closer to rum with toffee, burnt sugar, caramelised apple plus some juicy pear. Its finishes with a fairly astringent bitterness.

Bottle at chriso Vintage Tasting. Perhaps my favorite of all the Gales POAs we tried. This one pours clear, rich amber with a medium, light tan foam. Looks great. Aroma suggests sweetness with jammy fruits, cake bread, and grapes. Flavor is medium sweet with grapes and berries, mild alcohol, caramel and candy. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with more berries, fruit jam, and light booze. Very nice beer.

50 cl bottle vintage 2010 @ home, BBE 26.10.2012. Rated on 7.5.2011
Aroma has gooseberry bush and some toffee. Flavour has manure typical to lambics, some bitter sourness and raisins. Maybe this was too raw? We’ll see after I’ve had the other bottle I bought.

1996 - ruby brown, oily in glass, no head. Nose is marmitey, yeast extract, fruity, marmalade. Taste is marmitey, soft red winey, stewed fruit, old woody, soy sauce, but overall it’s a touch flat and no bitterness. 3.3 score. 2006 - ruby red. Nose is sherry, caramel, port, some citrous. Taste is deep caramel, bit tart and some bitterness on finish. Boozy. 3.4 2007 - a write off. Sour like a Lambic or Belgian Bruin with raspberry tart fruit flavours. 2.1 2008 - clear tawny brown, no head. Nose is caramel, minerally, bit of sherry and brandy. Fruitier and lighter than previous years. Ripe fruit in the finish. 3.1 Overall not massively impressed by the aging of these beers.
