Poured a clear light yellow. Aroma of "skunk" and mild light malt. Thin body. Now where is the beer in their description.

Pours a very pale watery champagne color with a thin whispy white head. Sulfuric skunk aroma has a touch of pale malt and Saaz hops. Very watery, yet still bitter. Drinkable if you don’t like flavorful beer. At least now I can say I’ve tried Guatemalan beer.

Pale blond color. Corn aroma; dry taste, with some structure, correctly bitter. Thirst quencher.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2006 Unsure of the bottle date (does it really matter?). Clear, light yellow, good white head. Delicate aroma of vegetables that are starting to rot. Full bodied and balanced flavor says the commercial description, but I’m not so sure. Flavor, however, is better than the aroma, with some light herbal and bitter qualities, but mainly just water. A touch of stale/cardboard like flavors, but not nearly the amount of adjunct flavor I was expecting. Thin, fizzy. Tried a beer from Guatamala? Check.

0.6 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2005 wow. i’ve never had anything like this. it was only slightly darker than tap water, maybe like the gray water you wash your dishes with in the national parks. they flavor was vaguely reminiscent of beer, as though you’d had a High Life an hour ago, then filled your mouth with filtered well-water, swished it around, then swallowed....that’s the flavor. If it were cheaper than Desani, I’d probably drink it after a short jog.

In the bottle at WFO. Another of my local grocery store beers. I bought this for the rooster label, as it reminds me of David Sedaris’ brother. Pale golden and fizzy. Taste of maize. Not skunky, so they get points for packaging ( and I don’t just mean the cockfighting references). Not a lot of flavor here, but it is a little sweeter than most of the neighborhood faves swilled here in the hood.

It’s the Gallo d’Oro! I had this after a day spent hiking up the pyramids in Tikal. And it wasn’t that good. A typical lager style for central america but lacking something. I think it was TASTE.

0.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
(Bottled) Very, very pale pee-yellow color with hardly any head. Corny, sweetish, slightly harshly hoppy aroma. Very light, sour-sweetish corny maltiness with some hops and no finish. Quite clean, though. Very light-bodied, dishwashing-liquid palate. As easy to drink as tap water. Will work fine, if you don’t like the taste of beer in general.
