A clear golden lager beer with a characteristic body, fine bitternes and delicate aroma. Because of its full-bodied and balanced flavor it has become the preferred choice for those who enjoy a premium quality beer. This beer is sold in USA as Famosa

In Guatemala this is called GALLO. And when exported its called Famosa. Litro Bottle of Gallo: Yellow clear colour with average big white head. Aroma of hops and grains. Flavor is bit sweet with malts and some bitter hops. Average lasting aftertaste. One of the better Latin lagers.

Of the two Guatemalan beers Iíve had, I have to say I prefer this to Monte Carlo. Also called Gallo, this one is just a basic pale lager, but it does have a nice bitterness in the flavor profile. I drank a lot of this in Guatemals, because my doctor friend told me it was much safer than drinking the water.

Granted, the beer in Guatemala is pretty bad as a rule, so to say it is the best of the bunch, may be a bit of an understatement. However this is a charming and very refreshing beer. It is a bit like a Budweiser yet not lacking the malty flavor that beer should have. Really it is similar of Pilsner Urkel or Butvar of the Czech Republic. It is standard good solid beer

Bright clear yellow. with a bleached-white frizzy head. Glad I didnít buy the whole 6pk. Smells like a bowl of special K. Wow. It reminds me of the creek I used to swim in when I was a kid. I was so small that every now and again I would get some of the water in my mouth. Did I mention that this same river is now posted, by the local government, as being polluted. This is what it reminds me of!

33.8 oz bottle, brought back from Guatemala by a friend. Pours a very pale yellow gold colored body with a pretty nice fizzy foamy white head that had some decent retention. Aroma is fairly adjunct laden with a good bit of corn and maybe some rice. Given that, itís still pretty clean. Flavor is almost abscent, mostly corn and a touches of alcohol on the lightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is thin and fizzy as expected. Overall, itís just what you expect from a World Lager. It tastes like... Guatemala.

12 oz brown bottle with no freshness date.
clear piss yellow, with a fluffy marshmallow white head.

pretty nondescript aroma, a little wet hay and corn.

Flavor...... what flavor? Miller light with some pennies thrown in. Metalic finish.
If I hadnít poured this from a bottle I would have sworn it came from a tin can.

Aroma of corn and carbon dioxide (bite). I can imagine malt. Color so light it resembles ginger ale. White frothy head with small bubbles. Tastes like corn. Pretty thin. No significant bitterness. So itís balanced: little hop, little malt. Surprisingly a little alcohol wafted to the nose, but maybe thatís because there was no competition. All that aside, it would go down quickly on a hot day. It gives Bud a run for the money.

Pours a very pale yellow, billowy snow white head and quite lacy. Smell is grassy malt, DMS, some herbal hops and a light sourness. Taste....not much here. Some light grassy malt that is not unpleasant. Some striden, if light, bitter hops in the finish. Fizzy and crisp. The decent hops helps this one go down the gullet. They also save it from being awful. This is just below average lager.

Bottled. Beer is a clear, pale gold color with a small, white, frothy, mostly diminishing head. The aroma is malty with moderate notes of grain; Hoppy with trace note of herb; Moderate miscellaneous notes of DMS. The flavor is moderately bitter, moderately sweet with a long, moderately-growing-to-heavily bitter, moderately dry/acidic finish. Unclean, metallic retros. The body was light, the texture was watery and the carbonation is lively.

Head is initially small, fizzy, white, fully diminishing. Body is clear light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), with notes of chemicals and DMS. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Hwarrff. Nothing to see here.
