Poured water to gold in color with thin white head. The aroma comes off as grainy and with hints of metal. The flavor is standard sweet malts with hints of hop bitterness and metal shavings. Not such a great beer.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
On tap: In Guatemala this is called "Gallo" on the labels, billboards, etc. Pours a clear golden color with a frothy off-white head that is mostly lasting and lively. Has a sweet corn aroma and corn flavor on a thin palate. Not bad and drinkable. Less waterey that Bud or Miller products.

Ehhh, not so good. Taste like butter and not much else. Maybe Iíll try the other one somebody gave me but I doubt my rating will change much.

2.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pale yellow with mild carbonation. A persistent white head laces nicely. Mild hops attempt to save a sad & sickly uric aroma with metallic tendencies. (Some people like to joke about how pale lagers smell like urine, but Iím being serious here.) Flavor is all background noise: sweet pale malts, light herbal bitters and a lick of metal do nothing to get a rise out of me. Inoffensive yet bland.
Even though Famosa ranks lower overall, Iím standing by my conviction to avoid <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Beer/bahia/10539/> and will instead attempt to sample various and sundry other Guatemalan lagers, good and bad.

Drinkable but forgetable. Holds a good head on a pale yellow liquid. Barnyard hay aroma. Syrupy and bland with some hops trying to cry out for attention.

In Guatemala this is called GALLO. And when exported its called Famosa. Litro Bottle of Gallo: Yellow clear colour with average big white head. Aroma of hops and grains. Flavor is bit sweet with malts and some bitter hops. Average lasting aftertaste. One of the better Latin lagers.

Of the two Guatemalan beers Iíve had, I have to say I prefer this to Monte Carlo. Also called Gallo, this one is just a basic pale lager, but it does have a nice bitterness in the flavor profile. I drank a lot of this in Guatemals, because my doctor friend told me it was much safer than drinking the water.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Granted, the beer in Guatemala is pretty bad as a rule, so to say it is the best of the bunch, may be a bit of an understatement. However this is a charming and very refreshing beer. It is a bit like a Budweiser yet not lacking the malty flavor that beer should have. Really it is similar of Pilsner Urkel or Butvar of the Czech Republic. It is standard good solid beer

Bright clear yellow. with a bleached-white frizzy head. Glad I didnít buy the whole 6pk. Smells like a bowl of special K. Wow. It reminds me of the creek I used to swim in when I was a kid. I was so small that every now and again I would get some of the water in my mouth. Did I mention that this same river is now posted, by the local government, as being polluted. This is what it reminds me of!

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
33.8 oz bottle, brought back from Guatemala by a friend. Pours a very pale yellow gold colored body with a pretty nice fizzy foamy white head that had some decent retention. Aroma is fairly adjunct laden with a good bit of corn and maybe some rice. Given that, itís still pretty clean. Flavor is almost abscent, mostly corn and a touches of alcohol on the lightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is thin and fizzy as expected. Overall, itís just what you expect from a World Lager. It tastes like... Guatemala.
