Had this, and a number of its compatriots, after taking a chicken bus the Guatemalan coast. Had it with a dinner of rice, chicken, and black beans in a ramshackle hotel. It was cold and delicious.

Despite of quality and taste, what makes a beer is also the athmophere it can produce. In such case Gallo beer is a great example of what a beer can do by itself... Great memories from Guate!!!
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 jungheimer (16) - BRAZIL - JUN 13, 2009

It has an aroma derived from corn. Taste is great. The better of Central American beers. It’s the best in Guatemala, although Dorada is right up there as well. Recommend to anyone, because I will have again and again!
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Zymologist (30) - Lakewood, Ohio, USA - NOV 17, 2006
Granted, the beer in Guatemala is pretty bad as a rule, so to say it is the best of the bunch, may be a bit of an understatement. However this is a charming and very refreshing beer. It is a bit like a Budweiser yet not lacking the malty flavor that beer should have. Really it is similar of Pilsner Urkel or Butvar of the Czech Republic. It is standard good solid beer
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 kidmartinek (1848) - austin, Texas, USA - APR 14, 2008
A surprisngly good beer, despite being a lager. Amongst other things that lager beers are usually lacking, this beer has color, head, lacing, and flavor. Pours golden yelow with a 1.5 inch head that lasts a long time. Exhibits good bubbling. Sweet malt aroma. Very full flavored, like medium-bitter hops. Full-bodied mouthfeel. Superb lacing. This beer halds its carbonation without being over-carbonated. Good from start to finish. Goes great with meatloaf. Should be enjoyed by college kids on a campus near you.

Nice sized white head and yellow color. Well, for what it is, it's not too bad. A bit sweet, Red Strip-ish. with a malty finish.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2010 Nice. I like the Central American Pale Lagers. Guatemalan, Honduran, I like it, as long as it not from Mexico usually.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2006 NOt bad, it is too light, but clear and good for a good party, I like it only for this instances, not for a contest. Earlier Rating: 10/18/2004 Total Score: 3.6 Really light, like a local Corona, but good for a hot day. Pale and lager. Gallo means Roster in spanish. It’s said in France this beer has a Quetzal in the label, which is the national bird.
