Bottle at Chriso going Dutch tasting, acquired from Callans in Dundalk 03/07/14. Dark mahogany brown with a moderate light tan head that thins to a swirl and edgeing. Nose is light roast, earthy cocoa, toffee, light spice. Taste comprises earthy cocoa powder, brown bread notes, light roast, mineral pangs, faint hoppy backnotes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light roast finale with a drying element. Ok porter.

Craig on Heat Tasting at ChrisO’s. Hazy deep red - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and airy, mild fine carbonation. Airy malts, very mild dark character, trace of tangy coffee. Light dry and bitter finish. A bit dull but inoffensive.

Bottle shared at chriso’s. Pours brown with a frothy, off-white head. Tangy bread in the nose, some leathery fruits. Light to medium sweet flavor, some bitter earth, toasted bread, dirt, baking cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Bittersweet cocoa to finish, further earth, some coffee. So so.

beerfest5 (1147) - Dublin, IRELAND - APR 10, 2014
Bought two bottles from Malloy’s and discovered that one was the 4.8% variety. Pours a thick dark brown with a medium to small tan head that left fairly good lacing on the pint glass. Nice inviting aroma of toasted brown bread, some vanilla, milk chocolate, freshly brewed coffee. Taste is very similar to the aroma with a nice dry chalky mouthfeel.

Now...let’s try the bottle...Very dark caramel brown, big frothy beige head, bit over fizzy from bottle, some lacing
Aroma - soft roast, soft dark caramel, slight burnt note, hint of chocolate
Taste - Smooth sweet rich dark malts, soft bitter roast, slight burnt notes, hint of coffee, dark chocolate, some molasses, dab of treacle, bit of yeast (err I accidently poured a couple of chunks in), much more flavour than the fizzy keg...this would work REALLY well on cask
Palate - Soft carb (after I let the fizz go down), medium body. bit sticky, quite dark rich mouthcoasting malts. Finish as main flavour, quite dry dark rich sweet malts
Overall - This is much better bottled 3.4 > 3.8

Keg @ Salt House, Galway [021213] 6/3/7/3/14
Fairly black, ruby edges through glass, off white head
Aroma - touch of dark malt, hint of bitter hop, subdued aroma
Taste of dark malts, roasted malts, touch of chocolate, some burnt toast
Palate - Moderate carb, light body, too fizzy for a stout, tad thin, Finish - some roast burnt malts, bit dry
Overall - Not quite as good as the chocolate milk stout. Think I would prefer this cask conditoned or bottled (which I have and will re-rate soon). Not sure that keg is the best dispense for this particular beer.

elbernays (466) - Dublin, IRELAND - OCT 27, 2013
Pours black, big white foam head. Coffee chocolate nose. Burnt malts, earthy, wood taste. Dry papery bitter finish. Big drawback on this is that it’s very gassy. Needs to be smother. High carbonation adds nothing.

500ml bottle. Brown black pour, thin white head that doesn?t last. Nice nose, coffee and light chocolate, hints of dusty hops. Flavour follows the nose closely, with a little bitter twist towards the finish. Very dry indeed. Pronounced resiny oiliness in the texture. Another decent beer from these guys.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2013 Bottle at home. Poured black with off-white head. Powerful coffee notes in the aroma. Medium mouthfeel lacking a little something. Good though - be happy to try this again.
